Those Who Laid Aside Eternity to Taste the Hour
“A dragon may sleep upon a mountain of gold for an age. Yet a single shared meal, a single song, or a single life lived well may hold greater treasure still.” — Dracari Proverb
The Dracari are the descendants of dragons who chose something few of their kind ever considered.
They chose mortality.
Long ago, before the first Dracari drew breath, certain dragons gazed beyond their hoards, their kingdoms, and even their vast lifespans. They looked upon the mortal races and found themselves captivated—not by power, but by experience. Mortals laughed knowing joy would fade. They loved knowing hearts could break. They celebrated harvests, friendships, victories, and quiet evenings because every moment was precious precisely because it could not last forever.
Some dragons became fascinated by this mystery.
They crossed the Veil willingly, surrendering a portion of their ancient nature to live within the rhythms of mortal existence. They traded eternity for seasons. Certainty for discovery. Isolation for connection.
From those first crossings came the Dracari.
Though they retain the scales, horns, tails, and draconic features of their ancestors, the Dracari are not dragons diminished. They are dragons transformed. Their cultures reflect a uniquely Erosian philosophy: that life gains meaning through participation rather than possession. A vineyard tended for decades, a friendship nurtured across years, a family raised through generations, a craft perfected through patience—these are treasures many Dracari value as highly as the hoards their ancestors once guarded.
Across Erosia, Dracari communities are as varied as the dragons who first crossed the Veil. Some preserve ancient draconic traditions. Others have embraced mortal cultures so completely that only fragments of their ancestral customs remain. Yet nearly all share a deep appreciation for experience, legacy, and the relationships that give shape to a finite life.
To the Dracari, mortality is not a weakness to endure. It is the gift their ancestors chose. And every generation strives to honor that choice by living fully beneath the Three Moons of Erosia.
Dracari Appearance

Dracari retain true draconic form in humanoid scale.
Common traits include:
- full dragon heads with elongated muzzles
- horns, frills, ridges, crests, or swept crowns
- scaled bodies and tails
- clawed hands and feet
- digitigrade legs and balanced predatory posture
- luminous or jewel-toned eyes
- scale colors reflecting lineage: crimson, rosegold, coal-black, pearl mist, ember green, bronze, sapphire, ivory
Dracari feminine forms are typically more refined and sleek in proportion, while masculine forms tend broader and heavier. Both remain unmistakably draconic.
Many wear mortal luxuries not as vanity, but as celebration: silk, jewelry, perfume oils, festival armor, rings gifted by lovers, and heirlooms chosen for memory rather than wealth.
Dracari Society

Dracari rarely build sprawling empires. They know too well how such things end. Instead they gather in circles, houses, hearth-clans, artistic courts, monasteries, vineyards, mountain villas, and wandering caravans.
Most Dracari prize:
- experiences over possessions
- promises kept
- art worthy of remembrance
- intense loyalty once bond is given
- hospitality done lavishly
- mastery of appetite rather than slavery to it
- beauty with purpose
- endings worthy of song
Their gatherings are often loud, elegant, emotional, and unforgettable.
Dracari Adventurers

Many Dracari refuse to waste the brief lives they chose. They adventure to:
- feel fully alive
- fall in love somewhere dangerous
- atone for crimes of their greater draconic kin
- protect fragile mortal joys
- seek rare flavors, songs, relics, or wonders
- test themselves where risk is real
- earn an ending worth remembering
They excel as paladins, bards, sorcerers, fighters, monks, rogues, clerics, and any path fueled by conviction.
