Gelkin

Where Feeling Learns to Walk

“Do not ask what I was made from. Ask what I have become.”

Gelkin are the living condensation of emotion, memory, resonance, and mutable matter. They arise where feeling gathers deeply enough to awaken substance into selfhood.

In Erosia, emotions are not merely private things. Love, grief, desire, rage, devotion, loneliness, joy, and longing leave traces upon the world. In places where such feelings collect within receptive matter—slime pools, alchemical gels, sacred baths, enchanted sap, abandoned oozes, ritual fluids, moon-touched waters, or arcane residue—something extraordinary may occur.

The medium awakens. That awakening becomes a Gelkin. They are not born through bloodline or conventional reproduction. Each Gelkin begins as a moment of becoming: when accumulated feeling crosses the threshold into identity.

Many Gelkin remember fragments of the emotions that formed them, but not clear histories. Some awaken joyful. Some confused. Some wise beyond reason. Some desperate to understand why they exist.
Across Erosia they are known as healers, empaths, monks, artists, courtiers, explorers, guardians, philosophers, and adventurers who seek meaning in motion before stagnation claims them.

Gelkin Appearance

Gelkin possess fully gelatinous humanoid bodies shaped through self-expression rather than inherited biology.

They have no fixed flesh, bones, organs, or sexual anatomy. Their bodies are smooth, elegant, and ever-so-slightly mutable. Many maintain stable forms out of preference, while others subtly shift posture, height, texture, facial structure, or silhouette with mood.
Gelkin often choose masculine-presenting, feminine-presenting, androgynous, or wholly unique appearances, but these are expressions of identity rather than sex.

Their coloration changes with emotion, health, and temperament. Common hues include:

  • sapphire calm
  • rose warmth
  • amber delight
  • emerald curiosity
  • violet introspection
  • silver serenity
  • crimson agitation
  • smoky grey grief

Most contain a softly luminous inner core or drifting lights suspended within the gel. Gelkin beauty ideals often favor clarity of self, graceful movement, emotional honesty, balanced coloration, elegant shaping, and the ability to make others feel safe.

Gelkin Society

Gelkin communities are known as pools, circles, currents, chorus halls, or sanctuaries. Many also live integrated within mixed settlements, where their emotional openness can be deeply valued—or misunderstood. Several values are common among Gelkin cultures:
– Balance. Feelings must move, not stagnate.
– Truth. Hidden pain becomes dangerous.
– Compassion. Burdens shared grow lighter.
– Identity. Form is chosen, not assigned.
– Renewal. Change is not failure.

Gelkin gatherings often feature shared baths, chorus meditations, color harmonies, storytelling through shape mimicry, communal rest, grief vigils, and celebrations where entire plazas glow in shifting light.

Gelkin Adventurers

Many Gelkin leave home because movement helps preserve balance. Some seek new experiences to broaden their sense of self. Some hunt corrupted Gelkin-demons born from emotional collapse.

Some wander in search of the place whose feelings awakened them.
Some become healers where suffering festers.

Some simply wish to know what kind of person they may become.

Gelkin thrive as monks, bards, sorcerers, clerics, druids, rogues, warlocks, and any calling rewarding adaptability, insight, support, or transformation.

Gelkin Cultural Lineages (Optional)

Though all Gelkin are born from gathered feeling made sentient, no two awaken from the same emotional sea. Most Gelkin recognize the first dominant resonance that gave them stable selfhood. This shaping force is called an Emotional Current.
