Hollow-Souled

Children of Oaths Unpaid and Passions Unresolved

In Erosia, the Hollow-Souled are born when infernal bargains outlive those who made them.

A mortal ancestor once swore for power, beauty, revenge, fertility, protection, forbidden knowledge, status, or salvation. Some fulfilled their side. Others fled, cheated, died too soon, or believed time could bury the agreement. Time rarely wins such disputes.

When a pact remains spiritually unresolved, the debt seeks shape.

Sometimes it appears as misfortune. Sometimes as a collector. Sometimes as temptation whispered at the right hour.

And sometimes, it is born as a child.

Thus the Hollow-Souled enter the world carrying an echo-space within the spirit—an inner chamber where unfinished consequence still resonates. They are not damned, nor inherently wicked. They are descendants of promises left open.

Most learn early that the world expects them to become either monsters or miracles. Many choose instead to become themselves.

Some lineages arise from devilish contracts of law, inheritance, and measured exchange. Others descend from demonic eruptions of obsession, grief, lust, fury, or heartbreak given ritual form. Though their origins differ, all Hollow-Souled know what it means to inherit a story they did not write.

Hollow-Souled Appearance

Hollow-Souled retain striking infernal beauty shaped by varied ancestry.

Common features include:

  • horns elegant, broken, spiraled, crowned, swept back, or asymmetrical
  • expressive tails that reveal mood as often as hands do
  • eyes ember-red, gold, violet, black-sclera, silver, or sigil-ringed
  • skin tones crimson, wine, ash, bronze, dusk-blue, ivory, obsidian, plum
  • subtle scent of incense, rain, ash, roses, wine, parchment, or smoke
  • faint runes that shimmer when promises are spoken nearby

No two bloodlines manifest alike.

Hollow-Souled Society

Few Hollow-Souled gather into nations of their own. Instead, they form circles, salons, houses, caravans, hidden courts, and family networks within wider cultures.

Many become:

  • advocates, negotiators, and judges
  • artists who transform pain into beauty
  • spies and courtiers
  • occult scholars
  • merchants who read motive quickly
  • priests seeking release from ancestral debt
  • protectors of those similarly judged too soon

Among one another, reputation is valued less than honesty. A known sinner is trusted sooner than a false saint.

Hollow-Souled Adventurers

Hollow-Souled often leave home to define themselves beyond lineage. Common motives include:

  • severing an ancestral infernal claim
  • mastering powers already stirring within
  • proving they are more than rumor
  • hunting the devil who still visits their family line
  • understanding demonic blood born from passion and catastrophe
  • seeking wealth, pleasure, justice, or freedom on their own terms

They make exceptional warlocks, rogues, bards, sorcerers, paladins, and any hero comfortable navigating temptation.
