You have always been drawn to tight places and deep ones. Narrow passages, hidden hollows, cracks in the earth and chambers buried beneath mountains stir something in you that open country never could. You learned to squeeze through spaces others avoided, descend where sensible people remained above and push deeper simply because you needed to know what waited at the end.

Work with your GM to determine where your fascination with enclosed spaces took you. Perhaps you explored natural caves, worked in mines, mapped forgotten tunnels or sought increasingly narrow and difficult passages for the thrill of pressing through them. You might have joined professional delvers, guided wealthy thrill-seekers below ground or discovered that ancient ruins contain wonderfully tempting openings marked Do Not Enter.

Equipment: Mason’s tools, 50 feet of hempen rope, a hammer, 10 pitons, a hooded lantern, a piece of unusual stone taken from a memorable descent, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Feature: Deeper Still

You have extensive experience navigating caves, mines, tunnels and other enclosed environments. Underground, you can usually determine whether a passage naturally formed or was deliberately excavated, recognize common signs of unstable stone and identify evidence that a tunnel or chamber continues beyond an apparent obstruction.

When traveling through an inhabited region, you can usually locate miners, quarry workers, delvers, guides or others familiar with nearby caves and underground works. Such people recognize your practical experience and will generally share ordinary information about local tunnels, hazards and known entrances.
