You learned to distinguish the smallest differences between them until every person and place seemed to possess an invisible signature.

Perhaps you apprenticed to a perfumer, blended incense for a temple, prepared aromatic oils in a bathhouse, hunted by scent, or traveled in search of rare resins and flowers. You may create elaborate fragrances intended to complement a wearer’s natural scent rather than conceal it, or prefer the intimate honesty of a person entirely without perfume.

Feature: Scent Memory

You possess an exceptional memory for ordinary scents. After meaningful exposure to a distinctive natural smell or prepared fragrance, you can usually recognize it again and recall the circumstances in which you first encountered it.

By carefully examining a mundane perfume, incense, oil, or aromatic preparation, you can identify its most obvious components when they are familiar to you. You can also recognize common signs that a fragrance has been diluted, contaminated, or used to conceal another strong odor.

This feature does not allow you to track without physical evidence, identify a person from a momentary or heavily obscured scent, detect odorless substances, or overcome magic.

Perfumers, alchemists, herbalists, bathhouse attendants, incense makers, and trackers recognize your trained vocabulary. They will generally share ordinary information about local fragrance traditions, rare ingredients, reputable suppliers, and places where aromatic materials may be obtained.
