Thyssara’s Tea

A Cup for What Lingers

Near the garden edge of Amarosa’s market quarter, where herb sellers give way to flowering paths and the noise of commerce begins to soften, a small tea house breathes steam into the street. Its windows are crowded with green leaves, dried blossoms, ceramic jars, and bundles of herbs tied with linen thread.

This is Thyssara’s Tea: part tea house, part herbal shop, part place to sit when the day has asked too much of you. No one is hurried through a cup. No one is expected to explain why they came.

Meet Thyssara Bloombound

Thyssara is an ancient deep-forest giantkin, a Verdant Keeper of the Circle of Petal whose life has always been shaped by plants, patience, and the conviction that longing should not have to hurt. Her people have yet to receive a settled name in Erosia’s records. She speaks gently, listens longer than most people expect, and has the habit of setting a cup down before a guest has quite admitted they need one.

Her care is no longer endless. Thyssara learned the cost of allowing comfort to become its own kind of captivity. Today she is careful with dosage, duration, cumulative effects, and the simple question of whether someone is ready to stop. The lesson is woven into the shop itself: every remedy is labeled clearly, every enchanted preparation is disclosed, and nothing is served with the expectation that a guest must finish it.

Your First Cup

Lavender-lilac fur covers Thyssara’s broad woodland frame. Her wavy purple hair falls to mid-back beneath a crown of flowers; in the shop, a botanical bib apron is her only garment. She greets arriving guests with a warm teapot and room to choose their own welcome.

“Something warming, something bright, or somewhere quiet to sit?” Thyssara asks. A favorite flavor is answer enough; no guest owes her an explanation.

Your ChoiceThyssara’s Welcome
Something warmingRoot & Hearth, a seat near the fire, and water for road-weary hands.
Something brightGarden Wake and a window seat overlooking the flowering path.
Somewhere quietRoseleaf Quiet in the alcove or garden, with company only if invited.

The Philosophy of the Cup

Every tea service arrives with a cup, a small water carafe, and an empty saucer. Turning the empty cup upside down on the saucer means enough. Service ends immediately. No questions. No persuasion. No disappointed hostess.

Regulars know the gesture well enough that it often appears elsewhere in Amarosa: a quiet little sign that someone is finished, ready to leave, or simply needs a moment without being asked for more.

Inside Thyssara’s Tea

The door opens into warmth and the scent of damp soil, crushed petals, chamomile, roseleaf, and green things drying slowly from the rafters. Shelves of herbs, oils, dried flowers, and ceramic jars line the walls. Handwritten labels remain simple and direct: For Sleep. For Grief. For Longing. For Exhaustion.

The main room is arranged around low tables and mismatched chairs rather than a formal counter. A narrow preparation bar sits along the back wall, beside a small apothecary cabinet and a stone basin fed by clean running water. Beyond a latticed door lies a private garden where medicinal herbs grow beside flowers chosen simply because Thyssara likes them.

Hearthside chairsA traveler drying their boots recognizes a place mentioned in the party’s story.
Main tea tablesA gardener has an unfamiliar seedling wrapped in damp cloth and asks for an opinion.

These are optional encounter prompts. A quiet visit can end with nothing more demanding than a finished pot.

Using the Shop Map

The entrance and broad stone steps are at the bottom of the map; the garden patio runs along its left side. The plans are illustrative and have no fixed scale. Leave enough passage for Thyssara and guests to move comfortably.

AreaLocation and Use
Tea roomFront and center: shared tables, window seats and hearthside chairs.
Serving counterAcross the rear of the public room: orders, cups and everyday infusions.

Quiet alcoveRear left: cushioned bench and a small table beside the patio door.
Garden patioLeft side: outdoor tables, herb beds and a flowering arch opening toward the street.

The Garden Table

When weather permits, guests may take their cups outside beneath trellised vines and flowering shade. The garden is not silent, but it is sheltered enough that the market becomes a distant murmur. Adventurers often favor this space after returning from the Chasm or a difficult journey.

The Apothecary Wall

Tea is only part of Thyssara’s trade. The apothecary wall holds grounding oils, poultices, healer’s supplies, restorative draughts, sleep sachets, and carefully measured botanical preparations. Anything with magical or Desire-affecting properties is marked plainly before purchase.

Enchanted remedies are discussed individually before sale. Thyssara refers curses, serious injuries and dangerous magical effects to an appropriate healer rather than promising a cure in a cup.

For the DM: Simple Restorative Use

Thyssara’s Tea works best as a low-pressure downtime location. A purchased restorative infusion may support a short rest, remove a minor narrative condition, grant advantage on one appropriate save during recovery, or simply provide a safe frame for a conversation. Avoid making the shop a replacement for temples, healers, or major restoration magic.

The Emberkiss Legacy

During The Verdant Ache, the shop was known as Thyssara’s Bloom. Older patrons still speak that name with the familiarity of a place that once held them through difficult seasons. They remember flowering rooms, warm cups nestled between their palms, and the sweetness of Emberkiss Bloom lingering beneath the scent of steeped herbs. For some, those memories remain tender; for others, the tenderness is inseparable from how difficult it became to leave.

Thyssara’s gift for influencing emotion gave that sanctuary a power beyond ordinary hospitality. As Emberkiss Bloom saturated the rooms, the shop grew too lush, too warm, too easy to remain inside. Relief became its own pressure, and the comfort meant to ease longing began to hold guests within it. A second pot, another quiet hour, one more evening among the flowers: the invitation to rest could become a reason to postpone returning to the world.

Thyssara carries that history into every service. Today, open windows let the garden breathe, the strongest flowers remain in controlled beds, and enchanted preparations are measured, disclosed and logged. The garden closes periodically for rest and maintenance. She attends to the space between cups as carefully as the brewing itself, leaving guests time to notice what they want before offering more. An unfinished cup receives the same courtesy as an empty one.

The old name belongs to the shop’s history, and Thyssara speaks of it plainly when asked. She can remember the solace it offered while acknowledging the pressure it created; a guest may remember both, or either, without owing her reassurance. The present tea house gives that lesson a daily form: a clearly labeled remedy, a choice of seat, an open door, and a welcome that allows departure. Her rule is simple: care must know how to release what it holds.

Autumn Vigil: This Season’s Steeping

Cool evenings bring toasted roots, orchard fruit and pots left warming beside the hearth. Thyssara’s seasonal cups carry gentle botanical enchantments shaped by her Verdant Keeper practice. Each offers a different way to welcome, settle or steady the pressure of Desire. The stories beside them remain optional beginnings for a visit.

Enchanted Tea Service. Each seasonal cup costs 3 sp and is a magical consumable. Drink it over 10 uninterrupted minutes and willingly accept its enchantment to receive its effect. Thyssara explains the enchantment before serving; an unenchanted version is available at the same price. A creature can benefit from only one of these seasonal tea enchantments between Long Rests. Additional cups remain pleasant refreshments but grant no further mechanical benefit.

Invitation, Not Command. The drinker chooses whether to accept the disclosed effect; declining it requires no saving throw. These teas do not impose attraction, confession, obedience or consent. Use the Mechanics of Desire presentation agreed by the table. Each tea’s description provides its 5e benefit. Veiled Mechanics build on that benefit, and Unveiled Mechanics build on the previous layers, replacing the Veiled condition effect where stated. The following are specific tea effects, not changes to the core rules.

Orchard Ember

3 sp per cup

Apple peel, roasted root and cinnamon offer a mellow autumn warmth.

Drink one cup over 10 uninterrupted minutes and willingly accept its enchantment. You gain advantage on one Charisma (Persuasion) check made within 1 hour during a willing, friendly conversation.

Veiled Mechanics. In addition to the benefit above, you may become Stirred. Apply that condition’s normal effect and ending.

Unveiled Mechanics. Retain the Persuasion benefit. Instead of becoming Stirred, you may gain 1 Arousal, to a maximum of 2. This tea cannot trigger Climax.

Over Tea. A gardener sets a wrapped seedling beside the cup: the leaves have turned violet, although the plant was green that morning.

“Let us find out what it needs before deciding what it is,” Thyssara says. The gardener welcomes help tracing the seedling’s origin.

Violet Dusk

3 sp per cup

Violet and plum skin steep into a softly fragrant tea.

Drink one cup over 10 uninterrupted minutes and willingly accept its enchantment. You gain advantage on the next Wisdom saving throw you make within 1 hour to resist being charmed.

Veiled Mechanics. In addition to the benefit above, end the Stirred condition affecting you. This does not interrupt an Overwhelmed outcome already being resolved.

Unveiled Mechanics. Retain the saving throw benefit. Instead of ending Stirred, reduce your Arousal by 1, to a minimum of 0. This tea does not restore Libido or end an existing charm.

Over Tea. A regular keeps ordering a second cup for a friend who has missed three usual visits.

“An empty chair can mean many things,” Thyssara says. “Would you ask after them gently?”

Lanternleaf

3 sp per cup

Mint, citrus peel and toasted spice brighten a chilled evening.

Drink one cup over 10 uninterrupted minutes and willingly accept its enchantment. You gain advantage on the next Wisdom saving throw you make within 1 hour against a magical effect that influences emotion or attention.

Veiled Mechanics. The benefit above also applies to your next EROSave within 1 hour. The enchantment ends after either qualifying saving throw is rolled.

Unveiled Mechanics. Use the Veiled benefit with the full Desire rules. This tea does not change Arousal or restore Libido. Advantage does not stack with another source of advantage.

Over Tea. A delivery bears Thyssara’s handwriting, but she does not recognize the contents or the sender.

“That is my name,” she says, turning the label toward the light. “It is not my work.” She asks for discreet help finding the source.

Whispers Over Tea

d8The Whisper
1A gardener near the market swears one flower bed changes color when someone lies beside it.
2A temple attendant has been buying sleep tea in quantities large enough for an entire choir.
3Someone keeps leaving fresh-cut flowers outside Thyssara’s door before dawn.
4A customer asked for a remedy for longing and returned three days later asking for the longing back.
5One of the public garden paths now leads somewhere it did not last week.
6A Bloomseeker claims Thyssara can identify plants from Rosethorn Chasm that no surface botanist has ever cataloged.
7A merchant is paying too much for ordinary chamomile and insisting on secrecy.
8Someone has begun copying Thyssara’s handwritten labels and attaching them to remedies she did not make.
For the DM: Behind the Seasonal Whispers

The violet seedling. A market nursery mixed up a shipment of moon-responsive plants. The seedling is harmless, but its supplier has lost the ledger identifying the rest. Finding it prevents frightened customers from destroying the plants.

The missing regular. The absent friend is caring for a recovering relative and has been too overwhelmed to send word. A tactful visit offers practical help and a renewed connection; it need not become a disappearance investigation.

The copied label. A reseller is passing off cheap blends under Thyssara’s name. The party can trace the paper, question vendors and recover the remaining stock. Decide whether the substitution is merely dishonest or conceals a larger plot.

These explanations are campaign options, not additional locked history. Guests choose whether to follow them, and concern does not entitle anyone to another person’s private story.

Becoming a Regular

FamiliarityWhat Changes
First visitThyssara offers a choice of cup and seat, then lets the guest set the pace.
After a few visitsShe remembers a favorite blend and asks whether they would like it again.
Trusted companyA seasonal concern or request for help may accompany the pot. Private stores and conversations still require invitation.
A welcome strainedThyssara states a boundary clearly. Continued disruption ends the visit; familiarity never purchases exceptions.

A Place in Your Campaign

Use Thyssara’s Tea when the party needs somewhere quieter than a tavern but less formal than a temple. It is a place to recover, purchase herbal supplies, meet a contact beneath flowering vines, hear a rumor that arrives softly, or let a character sit with what happened before the next adventure begins.

Her emotional influence is disclosed before use; it does not impose attraction, confession, obedience or consent. Seasonal tea effects follow their own item descriptions and limits, and never apply merely because a character enters the shop.
