Erothaumaturgy is magic of breath, warmth, affection, healing, bloom, and the radiant power created when living beings meet one another with care. It channels divine sensuality and emotional resonance through closeness, empathy, shared vitality, and renewal.

Erothaumaturgy is not simply healing magic, nor does every healing spell belong to it. The discipline concerns connection as magical intention. It can restore, protect, empower, illuminate, encourage growth, strengthen a sacred bond, or transform shared pleasure into protective or restorative power.

Who Practices Erothaumaturgy

Anointed healers, temple attendants, sacred courtesans, Oathsworn, Verdant Keepers, nurturing Summoners, ritualists, and Sigilwrights all practice Erothaumaturgy. No deity or class exclusively owns it. The same resonance can be reached through prayer, arcane notation, primal communion, performance, pact, or deliberate ritual.

How the Magic Manifests

Erothaumaturgic magic often appears as warmth beneath the skin, luminous breath, flowering sigils, fragrant air, synchronized heartbeats, gentle radiance, or light passing between willing participants. Its appearance reflects the caster’s tradition and need not involve physical touch.

Traditional Schools

Erothaumaturgy commonly accompanies abjuration, evocation, enchantment, and transmutation. It may protect through shared warmth, release radiant power through joy, strengthen emotional connection, or encourage healing and growth. A spell keeps its traditional school for all ordinary rules interactions.

Measure and Distortion

The discipline’s sacred expression is care offered with permission and measure. Its distorted expression is care that refuses to stop: healing that becomes invasive, growth that consumes its subject, affection that becomes possession, or abundance that leaves no room to breathe.

Using Erothaumaturgy at the Table

Players should decide what first taught their character that care carries power, how their magic expresses comfort, and what kind of help they find difficult to refuse. Dungeon Masters can use damaged Erothaumaturgic wards, overflowing sanctuaries, and possessive healing spirits to explore the difference between nurture and ownership without declaring the discipline corrupt.

Consent and Responsible Practice

Erothaumaturgy teaches that care without the freedom to refuse is not sacred intimacy. Consensual practice requires adults beyond their Age of Bloom who possess capacity and remain free to withdraw. Hostile Erothaumaturgic spells still use ordinary attack rolls, saving throws, and conditions; their restorative imagery does not make coercion benevolent.
