Wildheart — Path of the Wild Heat

There comes a moment when restraint stops being wisdom and becomes hesitation.

Lore Overview

Wildhearts of the Wild Heat do not merely endure rising instinct. They invite it closer.

Their traditions teach that the body possesses a language older than speech: quickened breath, tightening muscle, racing blood and the sudden certainty that action matters more than deliberation. Rather than suppress these signals, Wild Heat practitioners cultivate them until pressure becomes momentum. Ferocity burns hotter. Movement becomes harder to stop. Every wound, charge and collision feeds the next.

Many Wild Heat traditions honor Ulvexa, though worship is never required. Some practice through ritual wrestling, endurance contests, ecstatic dances, dangerous hunts or ceremonial trials in which participants learn the difference between surrendering hesitation and surrendering agency. Their oldest teaching is simple: instinct may be fierce without becoming mindless.

For a Wildheart of this path, Arousal represents rising primal heat. Libido is the endurance they are willing to burn when ordinary Ferocity is no longer enough. Climax is an eruption: accumulated pressure becoming immediate physical action.

Kindled Rage

3rd-Level Path of the Wild Heat Feature

Your Ferocity no longer awakens quietly. Each surge feeds the next. While you are raging, once on each of your turns when you gain a Ferocity point, choose one of the following benefits:

  • Surge. You may immediately move up to 10 feet toward a hostile creature you can see. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
  • Impact. The next time you hit with a melee weapon attack before the end of your turn, the attack deals additional damage equal to your Rage damage bonus, and the target cannot take reactions until the start of its next turn.

You can benefit from Kindled Rage only once on each of your turns.

Veiled Play. When Kindled Rage activates, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, you gain both Surge and Impact instead of choosing one.

Unveiled Play. When an attack empowered by Impact hits a creature, you may force that creature to make an EROS Save against a DC equal to 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Constitution modifier. On a failed save, the creature gains 1 Arousal. A creature never gains Arousal through this feature without an EROS Save.

Heat Answers Heat

6th-Level Path of the Wild Heat Feature

Pain does not cool you. Opposition gives the fire something to consume. While raging, when a creature within your melee reach damages you, you may use your Reaction and expend 1 Ferocity to make one melee weapon attack against that creature. If the attack hits, the creature cannot take reactions until the start of its next turn.

Veiled Play. When this attack hits, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, add your Proficiency Bonus to the attack’s damage.

Unveiled Play. When you use Heat Answers Heat, you may spend 1 Libido instead of expending Ferocity. If you do, you gain 1 Arousal and the attack deals one additional weapon damage die on a hit.

You can still use Heat Answers Heat normally if you choose not to spend Libido.

Rapture Surge

10th-Level Path of the Wild Heat Feature

There is a threshold beyond which injury no longer tells the body to retreat. It tells the Wildheart that the moment has finally become worthy. Once during each Rage, when damage reduces you to one-half your hit point maximum or fewer, you may use your Reaction and expend 1 Ferocity to enter a Rapture Surge until the start of your next turn. While the surge lasts:

  • You have Resistance to all damage except psychic damage.
  • You may immediately move up to half your Speed.
  • This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.

Veiled Play. When you Climax while raging, you may immediately activate Rapture Surge without using your Reaction, expending Ferocity or counting against its normal once-per-Rage use.

Unveiled Play. When Rapture Surge is activated by your Climax, you may make one melee weapon attack at the end of the movement granted by the feature.

This attack occurs as part of Rapture Surge and requires no additional action.

Wild Heat Incarnate

14th-Level Path of the Wild Heat Feature

At the height of your practice, Ferocity ceases to resemble ordinary aggression. You move like a living impact: heat given muscle, intention given momentum. While raging, once on each of your turns when you move at least 10 feet toward a hostile creature and then hit it with a melee weapon attack, the attack deals an additional 1d8 damage of the weapon’s type. The target must also succeed on a Strength saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Strength modifier or fall Prone. If you expended Ferocity earlier during the same turn, the movement does not need to be in a straight line.

Veiled Play. When Wild Heat Incarnate triggers, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, after resolving the attack you may move up to 10 feet toward another hostile creature you can see without provoking opportunity attacks.

Unveiled Play. Whenever you Climax while raging, you may immediately choose one hostile creature you can see within a distance equal to your Speed. You may move up to your Speed toward that creature without provoking opportunity attacks and make one melee weapon attack against it.

On a hit, Wild Heat Incarnate applies to the attack regardless of how far you moved before striking.

Deity Alignment

Wildhearts of the Wild Heat most commonly resonate with Ulvexa, whose faith sanctifies instinct without surrendering choice. Some also find kinship with Velyssara, through the creative and transformative power of desire, or Threxira, through embodied transformation and deliberate becoming. None of these relationships require worship. The path may arise anywhere someone learns that fierce instinct and conscious agency can inhabit the same body.
