Confidential archive and refuge network · Houses of the Whispered Heart and allied workshops

The Margin protects people whose disclosed identities or histories have become instruments of control. It offers secure correspondence, correction of unauthorized records and introductions to independent advocates. Its ambition is a recognized right to privacy that survives changes in appearance, patronage or name.

Moral character: Good with difficult limits. Individual members may disagree with their organization’s conduct.

Leadership & control

Each refuge is locally governed. Regional custodians coordinate through limited records rather than a universal list of residents. coordinator Vessa Quill, a mature Fleshforged woman and former archive conservator, knows the cost of being reduced to a maker’s description. She dislikes centralized authority so much that coordination can become slow.

Faith & moral tensions

Zenthira’s confidences remain gifts, while Threxia affirms a person’s authorship of becoming. Secular privacy specialists work alongside clergy. The Margin does not define secrecy as innocence: evidence of a crime can be preserved without circulating unrelated intimate material. Its duties can still conflict with a lawful investigation.

Resources & membership

Privacy consultations for prosperous clients subsidize refuges. Custodians enter after supervised work and independent references. No initiation requires surrendering a personal secret. Members learn only what their role needs, limiting damage from betrayal.

Daily life & internal tensions

Messages use agreed symbols, and rooms contain both writing desks and reliable locks. Some custodians shelter anyone; others exclude people accused of serious harm before charges are tested. The Plainspoken Table mediates, while the Unshuttered Eye campaigns to open the archives.
