Skeptical philosophical school · Learned cities and traveling lecture circles
The School studies miracles without assuming that their apparent source deserves the category of god. Some members suspect powerful beings shaped by the Veil; others doubt reported manifestations and seek reproducible evidence. Its ambition is an archive that records failed prophecies and uncertain observations alongside celebrated wonders.
Moral character: Neutral and intellectually divided. Individual members may disagree with their organization’s conduct.
Leadership & control
Teaching circles choose rotating chairs and admit public challenges. chair Edrin Sere, an older Dreamborn nonbinary historian, once disproved a fraudulent shrine and became too eager to repeat the triumph. Students can publish dissent without the chair’s permission. Wealthy patrons nevertheless decide which expeditions receive funding.
Faith & moral tensions
This is the collection’s genuine divinity-skeptical faction. Its stronger scholars distinguish a witnessed phenomenon, its claimed cause and a claim to moral authority. Its dogmatists dismiss inconvenient evidence as fraud. Those dogmatists can be wrong in a world where the gods act.
Resources & membership
Tuition, copying services and research endowments pay for work. Working observers may enter through documented field study rather than pedigree. A modest free lecture program keeps skepticism from becoming solely an aristocratic pastime.
Daily life & internal tensions
Lecturers leave an empty chair for the best objection. A genuine Anointed is welcome to demonstrate a blessing but may refuse an intrusive experiment. The Mortal Lamp Assembly shares some civic aims and rejects the School’s occasional contempt for believers. The Bloomseekers supply discoveries that unsettle both sides.

Adventure seed
An expedition finds evidence consistent with a miracle that Edrin publicly dismissed. A patron offers further funding if the finding is quietly reclassified. The party must secure the original observations, hear competing interpretations and decide whether honest uncertainty is worth losing a comfortable sponsor.
