Description
You focus on one closed gate, threshold, or magical barrier you have personally examined within the past seven days and which remains on the same plane. The DM reveals one of the following, chosen by you: the barrier’s known method of opening; the general nature of a magical effect maintaining it; or the identity of one creature that last deliberately locked or sealed it within the past year, if that identity can be discerned by divination. If the barrier is protected by a nondetection effect of 8th level or higher, you receive no answer. The spell never opens the barrier, bypasses a lock, or reveals facts that cannot be magically determined.
Velvet Court Devotion. Delavira. Delavira’s denial rites are all about the moment before a forbidden door opens, a lingering glance, and the choice to delay gratification.
Devotional Rite. After the spell reveals its first answer, you may choose to wait motionless for one additional minute and voluntarily gain 1 Arousal. If you do, ask about a second different category from those listed in the spell. The DM answers if the same divination could determine it. This extra inquiry occurs once per casting.
- Veiled Effects. You receive the answer in a silent symbolic image that you may show to one willing companion touching your hand; the companion learns only what the answer contains.
- Unveiled Effects. If the answer provides a meaningful lead concerning a current unresolved danger, you may gain 1 Arousal after receiving it. If you do, one willing companion who witnessed the answer may reduce its Arousal by 1. The same barrier cannot grant you this Arousal benefit again until you finish a long rest.
“Every lock has two histories: who made it and who fears it open.”
