Description
Choose a point within range. A 10-foot-radius sphere of muffled sound settles there for the duration. Sounds from creatures and objects inside are heard at half their normal distance; Wisdom (Perception) checks relying on hearing sounds originating inside the sphere are made with disadvantage. The area is not magical silence, does not prevent verbal components, and does not impede hearing sounds originating outside the area. The sphere remains at the chosen point.
Velvet Court Devotion. Delavira. Delavira’s private salons prize the tantalizing half-heard whisper and a curtain drawn at the listener’s choice; sacred observation is always chosen.
Devotional Rite. Once per casting, a willing creature in the sphere may voluntarily gain 1 Arousal while using its action to listen more attentively. If it does, it has advantage on its next Wisdom (Perception) check to hear sounds originating inside the sphere before the end of its next turn. This benefit does not override the sphere’s disadvantage when both apply.
- Veiled Effects. An ally within the sphere has advantage on the next Dexterity (Stealth) check it makes to move without being heard before the spell ends.
- Unveiled Effects. If a willing ally succeeds at hiding from an active pursuer because of the sphere’s auditory interference, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, the ally may reduce its Arousal by 1. This caster gain occurs at most once per spell.
“A secret whispered into silence sometimes survives the telling.”
