Oceanus, a navy-blue Tideborne vendor, smiling beside the Skin & Smile cart in Amarosa's Roseglass Ward.

Skin & Smile

Care for the Skin. Something for the Smile.

In Roseglass Ward, pleasure is rarely difficult to find. Finding someone willing to answer an awkward question without turning it into a spectacle can be harder. That is where Skin & Smile earns its regulars.

Oceanus keeps a compact shop near the Rosewater Bathhouse and takes a smaller rolling display into the evening streets. By night, the cart is frequently found near The Winking Eye, where bath oils, aftercare supplies, magical self-pleasure devices, practical advice, and very good gossip all find willing customers.

Meet Oceanus

Oceanus is a gangly Tideborne with deep navy-blue skin, an easy smile, and the long-limbed posture of someone who always seems halfway between standing still and beginning to dance. Their clothing is deliberately plain by Roseglass standards: loose layers, practical belts, soft footwear, and enough pockets to make a Relicwright suspicious.

They are quick to joke with passersby, quicker to wave at a familiar face, and almost impossible to embarrass with a question about the body. Oceanus treats self-care and self-pleasure as ordinary parts of adult life. A request for bath salts, body-safe lubricant, a massage stone, or an enchanted pleasure device receives the same response: a few sensible questions, a practical recommendation, and usually a grin.

When music spills from The Winking Eye into the street, Oceanus has a habit of dancing beside the cart while continuing to make sales. Regulars have learned that this does not mean they are distracted. Quite the opposite.

Sensory Tester

Oceanus does not like selling anything they cannot explain. Their background as a sensory tester means they evaluate goods for texture, heat, vibration, pressure, scent, magical intensity, material quality, cleaning, and comfort before recommending them to someone else. They know which oils irritate scaled skin, which cooling stones are too aggressive for freshly heated muscles, and which enchanted devices have beautiful packaging but dreadful controls.

“If I cannot tell you what it does, how it feels, and how to clean it, I have no business charging you for it.”

Skin & Smile shell-and-pearl shop emblem in gold, ivory, blush, and deep blue.

Tested Before Sold

Skin & Smile has no grand doctrine, but Oceanus does have standards. A product should be comfortable for its intended use, its enchantment should behave predictably, its material should suit the body using it, and its owner should know how to care for it. Oceanus is particularly skeptical of merchants who sell intimate magic as though mystery were the same thing as craftsmanship.

New stock rarely reaches the display shelf immediately. Oils are checked for scent, warmth, and skin response. Mechanical devices are inspected for seams and moving parts. Enchanted devices are tested at their lowest setting before stronger effects are trusted. If a product has a limitation, Oceanus says so before money changes hands.

That honesty is one reason the shop has customers who would never describe themselves as adventurous. Some arrive knowing exactly what they want. Others spend ten minutes pretending to examine soap before quietly asking a question. Oceanus serves both without judgment.

Inside Skin & Smile

The permanent shop is small by Amarosan standards, occupying a compact retail alcove near the Rosewater Bathhouse rather than a grand independent storefront. That suits Oceanus. The room is built around what can be reached, demonstrated, cleaned, wrapped, and carried.

The Open Counter

The front counter holds soaps, bath salts, body oils, lubricants, cooling stones, massage tools, combs, skin brushes, and other goods that need little explanation. Samples are arranged neatly enough for comparison without turning the shop into a shrine to packaging.

The Fitted Shelves

Behind the counter sit trays of self-pleasure devices made from polished crystal, carved stone, treated wood, brass, pearl, and alchemical glass. Magical pieces favor rune-work, gemstone controls, soft illumination, and carefully bounded enchantments. Machine-crafted pieces use articulated fittings, balanced housings, replaceable components, and mechanisms intended to survive regular handling.

The Consultation Nook

A curtain and half-wall provide enough privacy for questions that someone may not want shouted over a public counter. Oceanus keeps the nook deliberately simple: two chairs, a narrow table, a wash basin, demonstration models, and cleaning supplies. Nothing purchased there requires a confession.

The Evening Cart

A smaller selection travels into Roseglass after dusk. The cart carries practical favorites, a few magical pieces, wrapped orders, and enough impulse purchases to justify parking near The Winking Eye. Oceanus claims the location is chosen entirely for foot traffic. Nobody believes them, including Oceanus.

Using the Shop Map

The map is a practical play aid. The color version shows the compact bathhouse-side shop as customers experience it; the black-and-white version is suited to printing, annotation, and encounter use.

From Oceanus’s Counter

The following pieces are regular enough to be recognized by repeat customers and useful enough to travel with adventurers. Each functions normally without the Mechanics of Desire; Veiled and Unveiled interactions are optional additions for tables using those modes.

Rosewater Afterglow Oil — 25 gp

Wondrous item, common, consumable

A small ceramic bottle of lightly enchanted after-bath oil. It warms on contact, absorbs quickly, and is commonly used after bathing, exertion, massage, or long travel. The delicate scent of rose and sea salt lingers for hours, leaving the skin soft, comfortable and lightly luminous.

Rules. As an action, apply the oil to yourself or a willing creature (1 minute). For the next 8 hours, the target has advantage on the next Constitution saving throw it makes against extreme heat, extreme cold, or forced marching. The effect then ends.

Veiled. Once while the oil is active, if a willing creature helps apply it during a short rest, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, add 1d4 to the next Wisdom (Insight) or Charisma (Persuasion) check you make within 1 hour.

Unveiled. Once while the oil is active, when you fail an EROSave, you may spend 1 Libido to reroll the save. You must use the new result.

Tidekiss Cooling Stone — 40 gp

Wondrous item, common

A smooth carved stone that remains pleasantly cool without becoming painfully cold. Tideborne artisans often groove the surface for a secure grip with wet hands.

Rules. As an action, press the stone against yourself or a willing creature. For 1 hour, the target has advantage on Constitution saving throws against extreme heat. Once used, this property cannot be used again until the next dawn.

Veiled. When a willing creature uses the stone on you during a short rest, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, add 1d4 to the next Constitution ability check or saving throw you make before the end of that rest.

Unveiled. Once per long rest, while benefiting from the stone, you may spend 1 Libido to gain advantage on one EROSave before you roll it.

Smilebright Mirror — 75 gp

Wondrous item, common

A pearl-backed brass hand mirror made for grooming, dressing, and presentation. Its enchantment sharpens confidence rather than changing appearance. Favored by performers, courtesans, and anyone who wishes to meet the world at their best.

Rules. Once per long rest, after spending 1 minute using the mirror to groom, dress, or prepare yourself, you may roll 1d4 and add it to one Charisma (Persuasion) or Charisma (Performance) check you make within the next 10 minutes. You may roll the d4 after seeing the d20 roll but before the DM declares the result.

Veiled. When another willing creature helps you prepare with the mirror, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, both of you gain a +1 bonus to the next Charisma ability check each of you makes within 10 minutes.

Unveiled. Once per long rest, when you make an EROSave while carrying the mirror, you may spend 1 Libido and add 1d4 to the save after rolling the d20 but before the result is declared.

Velvet Current — 250 gp

Wondrous item, uncommon

A finely crafted magical self-pleasure device made from pearl-resin, polished crystal, brass-cored alchemical glass, or similar body-safe materials. A control gem regulates warmth, pulse, rhythm, or vibration. Designed for personal indulgence, recovery, and magical well-being.

Rules. Once per long rest, if you spend at least 10 minutes using the device during a short rest, you gain 2d6 temporary hit points at the end of that rest. These temporary hit points last until your next long rest.

Veiled. After using the device during a short rest, you may gain 1 Arousal. If you do, you have advantage on the next Wisdom saving throw you make within 1 hour.

Unveiled. Once per long rest, when using the device results in Climax, you may spend 1 Libido to gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. These replace, rather than add to, any temporary hit points you already have.

Private Tide — 325 gp

Wondrous item, uncommon

A palm-sized pearl-and-brass privacy device intended for rooms, alcoves, tents, bathing chambers, and other spaces where discretion matters. When activated, it weaves a subtle veil that keeps what happens within, within.

Rules. Once per long rest, as an action, activate the device to create a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on it for up to 10 minutes. Sound cannot pass through the boundary of the sphere, though creatures inside can hear one another normally. The effect requires no concentration and can be ended early as a bonus action by a creature within 30 feet of the device.

Veiled. If activated during a willing private social or intimate scene, one participating creature may gain 1 Arousal. If it does, it may add 1d4 to the next Charisma (Deception) or Charisma (Performance) check it makes before the effect ends.

Unveiled. Once per long rest while inside the sphere, when you fail an EROSave, you may spend 1 Libido to reroll the save. You must use the new result.

Tonight’s Test Shelf

Oceanus reserves part of the counter for prototypes, limited seasonal stock, and products still earning a place on the permanent shelves. Regulars may be invited to test them at reduced cost in exchange for honest feedback.

Outside the Winking Eye

After dusk, Oceanus often rolls a smaller cart into the streets around The Winking Eye. The selection changes with the crowd: travel-sized oils, wrapped devices, perfume, cooling stones, cleaning kits, and whatever else can be sold to someone who has just remembered an urgent need while standing beneath Roseglass lanterns.

The location gives Oceanus another valuable commodity: a view of the door.

They remember regular patrons, unusual visitors, people who arrived together, people who left separately, and faces that appeared more interested in watching the entrance than crossing it. Oceanus does not claim to know what happens inside the Winking Eye. They simply notice who passes in front of them.

The Price of Remembering

Oceanus will sometimes trade an observation for coin, a purchase, a favor, or another useful rumor. They are opportunistic enough to recognize the value of information, but not cruel enough to make a game of genuine danger. If someone appears to be missing, hunted, coerced, or in immediate trouble, Oceanus is much more likely to help first and discuss payment later.

For the DM: What Oceanus Actually Knows

Memory Like the Tide

Oceanus is a witness, not an omniscient information broker. They can accurately describe things they personally observed from the shop, cart, bathhouse approach, or Winking Eye streetfront. They do not know what happened in private rooms unless someone later told them.

Memory Like the Tide. Oceanus has advantage on Intelligence checks made to recall a person, object, transaction, or event they personally observed within the last 30 days. If Oceanus spent at least 1 minute directly interacting with a creature, they can usually recall its general appearance, notable mannerisms, purchases, and the circumstances of the interaction without making a check.

What they charge. Routine information may cost 1–5 gp or simply require buying something from the cart. Sensitive observations may cost 10–25 gp, a reciprocal rumor, or a favor. Oceanus rarely sells information that would obviously expose an innocent person to harm.

When the Cart Rolls Out

On a typical evening the cart carries three everyday goods, two magical goods, one Test Shelf item, and one useful rumor.

d6What Changed Tonight?
1Oceanus has a brand-new prototype and wants testers.
2One regular item is sold out, but something unusual replaced it.
3Business is slow, so minor cleaning and calibration are free tonight.
4Someone recently asked Oceanus an unsettling question about another customer.
5A local artisan left three experimental products on consignment.
6Music from The Winking Eye has Oceanus dancing more than selling, but they heard an unusually good rumor.

Becoming a Regular

A character becomes a Skin & Smile Regular after making three purchases or completing one meaningful favor for Oceanus.

BenefitEffect
Test Shelf AccessBuy or test experimental stock not normally offered to casual customers.
First NoticeOceanus tells the character when unusual or rare merchandise arrives.
Care IncludedMinor cleaning, inspection, and calibration of Skin & Smile purchases is free.
Set It AsideOceanus reserves one requested common item for up to 7 days.
Something I Noticed…Once per visit, if Oceanus personally witnessed something relevant to the character’s current concern, they may volunteer it without demanding payment.

Oceanus also remembers preferences and boundaries. A regular who asks for discretion receives it without needing to repeat themselves.

The Things Oceanus Notices

Oceanus does not run an espionage network. They simply sit in the same places, see the same doors, remember the same faces, and notice when familiar stories stop lining up.

ObservationWhat Oceanus NoticesWhat It Might Mean
The Privacy RegularThe same customer buys privacy items unusually often.Secret meetings, blackmail, illicit business, or a private relationship.
The Wrong QuestionsSomeone asks who buys products rather than what the products do.Surveillance, jealousy, investigation, or predatory information gathering.
The Changed RouteA familiar patron stops approaching The Winking Eye from their usual street.Avoidance, pursuit, or another hidden destination.
The Unclaimed Aftercare KitA paid custom kit is never collected.Missing person, false identity, interrupted rendezvous, or embarrassment.
The Wrong FittingSomeone buys a replacement part that does not fit the device they claim to own.Stolen goods, a counterfeit, covert modification, or misunderstanding.
The WatcherA person spends several nights watching The Winking Eye without entering.Investigator, jealous partner, lookout, bodyguard, or fear.

None of these observations requires a sinister answer. Oceanus notices discrepancies; the DM decides what they mean.

Whispers Beside the Cart

  • “Someone entered the Winking Eye three nights running and left each time before midnight.” Oceanus remembers the face. They also remember that the person never entered alone.
  • “A batch of pearl-resin devices is humming when nobody touches them.” Oceanus has pulled the entire shipment from sale until someone explains why.
  • “A customer ordered a matched pair and never returned for the second.” The first was collected under a false name.
  • “Someone is selling Skin & Smile cleaning oil in copied bottles.” The counterfeit leaves a metallic smell Oceanus can identify immediately.
  • “The same person keeps asking who purchases privacy magic.” Oceanus has stopped answering. The questions have not stopped.
For the DM: Behind the Smile

The repeat visitor. The patron is meeting different couriers inside the Winking Eye and leaving before the busiest part of the evening. Oceanus can identify two of the companions and describe the third well enough to begin an investigation.

The humming shipment. The devices were packed beside an improperly shielded divination focus during transport. They are not cursed, but activating one currently causes a faint magical echo detectable with detect magic. The maker wants the shipment returned quietly before competitors learn about the flaw.

The unmatched pair. The second device contains a paired resonance gem that reacts faintly when the first is within 1 mile. It offers a practical way to locate the missing buyer if the party chooses to help.

The counterfeit oil. The false bottles are being used to establish a trusted label before the counterfeiters introduce more expensive copied enchantments. Oceanus is less concerned about lost sales than about customers assuming dangerous goods came through their hands.

The privacy buyer. The questioner is gathering information about who purchases silence and concealment magic around Roseglass. They may be a jealous patron, an investigator, a blackmailer, or an agent looking for a specific hidden meeting. Oceanus knows only that the pattern feels wrong.

A Place in Your Campaign

The Missing Customer

Someone Oceanus expected to see after an evening at The Winking Eye never returned for an order. Oceanus remembers who they arrived with, what they were wearing, and which direction their carriage came from.

The Faulty Enchantment

A respected artisan’s newest pleasure device is behaving unpredictably. Oceanus refuses to sell another until the source of the magical instability is found.

The Copied Smile

Counterfeit Skin & Smile goods have appeared elsewhere in Amarosa. The packaging is convincing. The craftsmanship is not. Someone is using Oceanus’s reputation to sell unsafe merchandise.

A Tester Needed

Oceanus has acquired an unusual enchanted object whose function cannot be safely understood from the maker’s notes alone. They want adventurers with magical expertise to identify what it does before anyone puts it near their body.

The Thing Oceanus Will Not Sell

A wealthy customer offers far too much money for the identity of someone who purchased a privacy device. Oceanus refuses. The customer then begins asking other vendors.

Traits

Amphibious. Oceanus can breathe air and water.

Memory Like the Tide. Oceanus has advantage on Intelligence checks made to recall a person, object, transaction, or event they personally observed within the last 30 days.

Sensory Tester. Oceanus has advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) checks made to identify the function, quality, or obvious defect of a mundane or magical item designed for grooming, bathing, massage, self-care, or personal pleasure, provided they can examine it for at least 1 minute.

Cunning Action. On each of their turns, Oceanus can take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action as a bonus action.

Actions

Dagger. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d4 + 3) piercing damage.

Distracting Quip (Recharge 5–6). One creature Oceanus can see within 30 feet that can hear them must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the start of Oceanus’s next turn.

Reactions

Helpful Correction. When a creature Oceanus can see within 30 feet makes an ability check using a skill in which Oceanus is proficient, Oceanus may use their reaction to add 1d4 to the roll. They may do so after seeing the d20 roll but before the outcome is declared. Oceanus can use this reaction a number of times equal to their proficiency bonus and regains all expended uses after a long rest.

Veiled Mechanics

Comfortable Recommendation. Once per short rest, after Oceanus spends at least 1 minute helping a willing creature select, test, fit, or adjust a self-care or sensory item, that creature may gain 1 Arousal. If it does, it adds 1d4 to the next Wisdom (Insight), Charisma (Persuasion), or Charisma (Performance) check it makes within 1 hour.

Unveiled Mechanics

Experienced Guidance. Once per long rest, when a willing creature within 10 feet of Oceanus fails an EROSave during a consensual scene involving an item Oceanus personally recommended, demonstrated, or adjusted, that creature may spend 1 Libido to reroll the save. It must use the new result.

At the Table

Oceanus is most useful as a social, investigation, and support NPC. They should notice details, remember faces, identify practical problems, and help a group navigate Roseglass without replacing the party’s own investigation. In a fight, Oceanus favors movement, cover, jokes, and getting someone else out of trouble over dealing damage.

Using Oceanus as a Sidekick

Oceanus is especially well suited to an Expert-style sidekick. Emphasize Dexterity, Wisdom, Charisma, Perception, Insight, Investigation, Persuasion, and tool or item expertise. Their growth should improve observation, mobility, assistance, and social versatility before direct combat power.

Community Creation

Oceanus and the original Skin & Smile concept were submitted by Grimace. Oceanus began as a beloved long-running campaign NPC and sidekick before finding a new home in Amarosa. This Erosian adaptation preserves their friendly, observant nature, their easy humor, and the simple joy of a character players chose to keep around.

Help Build Erosia

Skin & Smile is designed to grow with Roseglass Ward. New products, rumors, artisan collaborations, and strange little requests can all find their way onto Oceanus’s shelves. If your table creates a memorable piece of stock, a customer story, or an adventure born from the cart, it may have found exactly the right merchant.
