Velvet Torrent

You cannot still every current. You can choose how to meet it.

Lore Overview

The Current meets no dam within you. It rolls through laughter, grief, wonder, and longing, scattering violet light like rain upon velvet. You do not surrender your decisions to emotion; you learn to steer while the waters rise. Choose this origin for mobile casting and unpredictable benefits with a clear, voluntary cost.

You are a mobile controller. Arousal opens a more dangerous route through a surge; Flux supplies reliable control; Libido allows a rare correction. Emotional volatility describes the magic and grants no authority over your character’s choices.

Ride the Surge

3rd-Level Subclass Feature

Once on your turn after a levelled Bloodborn spell, spend 1 Flux and roll d4. On 1, move 10 feet without Opportunity Attacks; on 2, gain temporary hit points equal to PB + Charisma modifier (minimum 1); on 3, one visible creature within 30 feet makes a Strength save against your spell save DC or moves 5 feet horizontally to a supported unoccupied space; on 4, choose one of those outcomes. After a Manifested spell this costs no Flux; its once-per-turn limit remains.

Veiled Play. Gain 1 Arousal instead of spending its Flux. Resolve Climax before the surge; this does not retroactively Manifest the spell already cast.

Unveiled Play. When paying Flux at Arousal 3–5, roll the surge twice and choose either result. This does not also grant Braided Currents’ two outcomes.

Read the Undertow

3rd-Level Subclass Feature

Gain Insight proficiency, or Arcana if already proficient. After 1 minute speaking with a willing participant, spend 1 Flux to give it Advantage on its next Wisdom save within 10 minutes. Each recipient benefits once per Long Rest. This reveals only what it chooses to share.

Veiled Play. Instead of the saving-throw benefit, reduce the participant’s Arousal by 1. Costs and the recipient limit remain.

Unveiled Play. Spend 1 Libido in addition to the Flux to give the participant Advantage on its next EROSave within 10 minutes and reduce your own Arousal by 1. This cannot undo a Climax.

Ritual and Social Identity

3rd-Level Subclass Feature

Torrent conduits guide transition rites: mourning, departure, reconciliation, and the first breath after a storm. During a short rest, one willing participant may reroll one Hit Die spent to recover hit points and must use the new result. You can offer this benefit to one creature per long rest. No participant must feel or perform a particular emotion.

Veiled Play. When the rest rite ends, you may gain 1 Arousal to grant its willing participant advantage on its next EROSave before its next long rest.

Unveiled Play. When the rest rite ends, you may spend 1 Libido to let its willing participant reduce Arousal by 2. This creates no additional rest or Manifestation.

Release into Motion

6th-Level Subclass Feature

When you Climax, you may use your reaction to teleport up to 20 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. One willing creature within 5 feet of your starting space may teleport with you to a separate unoccupied space within 5 feet of your destination. In Classic Play, the same reaction is available immediately after you spend at least 2 Flux on one spell. You may use this feature PB times per long rest, shared between its triggers. If used on your Climax, your next Manifested spell can originate from your new position; neither the teleport nor the release grants an additional spell.

Veiled Play. After the baseline Climax teleport, you may gain 1 Arousal to let the accompanying willing creature move 5 feet without Opportunity Attacks.

Unveiled Play. After that teleport, spend 1 Libido to reduce the accompanying creature’s Arousal by 2. This adds no feature use and cannot interrupt Climax already triggered.

Braided Currents

10th-Level Subclass Feature

When you use Ride the Surge, roll twice and choose either result.

Veiled Play. After choosing a surge result, gain 1 Arousal to allow one willing creature within 10 feet to move 5 feet without Opportunity Attacks.

Unveiled Play. Spend 1 Libido after seeing the rolls to apply both, in your chosen order. Temporary hit points do not stack; a result of 4 must choose a different benefit from the other die. This waives no original cost.

Turn the Breaker

14th-Level Subclass Feature

When you or a willing creature within 30 feet would gain Arousal, you may use your reaction and spend 2 Flux to reduce that gain by 1, to a minimum of 0, and move the affected creature up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. Resolve the reduction before checking for Climax. In Classic Play, use the same reaction when that creature takes damage: reduce the damage by 1d8 + your Charisma modifier (minimum reduction 1) and grant the same movement. If you reduce your own Arousal gain, you may preserve that pressure instead: apply the full original gain and gain the movement without paying the 2 Flux. This still uses your reaction and one limited use; resolve any Climax immediately. You can use this feature PB times per long rest.

Veiled Play. When you would gain Arousal, you may take the original gain and spend its Reaction and limited use, but no Flux, for the baseline movement only. This prevents no Arousal.

Unveiled Play. Spend its Reaction, limited use, and 2 Flux to reduce a willing creature’s incoming gain by 1, then move it as the baseline permits. Alternatively spend 1 Libido instead of 2 Flux; actual Arousal prevention is resolved before the threshold.

The Unbroken Torrent

18th-Level Subclass Feature

Once per long rest, as a bonus action, become a living torrent for 1 minute. Once on each of your turns you may use Ride the Surge without paying Flux or gaining Arousal, after its usual qualifying spell. Braided Currents still applies, including its optional Libido cost. Each movement or teleportation granted by this origin increases by 10 feet during the transformation; forced movement from result 3 remains 5 feet. The transformation ends early if you are incapacitated.

Veiled Play. Once during the transformation after your own Climax, move up to half your Speed without Opportunity Attacks, requiring no action.

Unveiled Play. Once during the transformation after a Manifested spell resolves, spend 1 Libido to apply two different surge results without an additional Surge cost. This replaces Braided Currents’ optional expenditure for that use.

Additional Information

Combat Identity

Mobile controller who steers unstable magic through changing circumstances.

Desire Identity

Arousal opens risky routes through a surge; Flux supplies control and Libido pays for exceptional corrections.

Class Integration

You gain these features at Bloodborn levels 3rd, 6th, 10th, 14th, 18th. This subclass works through Flux, the Current, and Manifestation. Use the costs, triggers, limits, and recovery stated in the individual features and parent class.

Using This Origin.

Choose this origin at Bloodborn level 3 in place of a Primordial Current; it does not grant a second subclass. Its features arrive at levels 3, 6, 10, 14, and 18. Origin describes how you channel a Current, not a new claim about primordial ancestry. Use your Bloodborn spell save DC for all saves required here. PB means proficiency bonus. Flux remains the class’s existing resource.

Ritual and Social Use

Guide transition rites without prescribing how someone must mourn or recover. The Ritual and Social Identity feature gives the applicable observance and its complete benefits; this guidance adds no additional ritual reward.

Example of Play

You cast a spell, choose to gain 1 Arousal for Ride the Surge, and roll a 3. A foe fails its Strength save and slides 5 feet away from an ally. At level 10 you roll two results and select the useful one; spending Libido for both is an optional Unveiled Play decision, never an automatic consequence of the surge.

Additional Rules

Choice at the Table.

All sharing of Arousal, burdens, or ritual participation requires a willing participant who may decline without penalty. Magical connection reveals no thoughts, attraction, or secrets. Desire effects never establish consent or require intimate narration. Emotional or mystical descriptions and fade to black are equally valid.

Manifestation timing. These origin features add to the Bloodborn’s existing Manifestation; they never replace its benefits. A Manifested spell remains subject to its normal casting time, spell-slot cost, and the base class’s qualifying window. An origin grants no free spell or additional action unless it explicitly says so. A spell can receive each named origin benefit only once, even if multiple creatures release together. See the Mechanics of Desire and Bloodborn class.

Release and Manifestation.

At Arousal 6, resolve the applicable Climax Effect, reduce Libido by 1 when Libido is being tracked, reset Arousal to 0, and resolve additional triggers in the order specified by the Bloodborn class and the triggering effect. Climax grants neither automatic healing nor automatic Exhaustion through this origin. At 0 Libido, use the core Depleted rules; further forced release may risk Exhaustion. An EROSave is the creature’s choice of a Constitution or Wisdom saving throw, including proficiency only when proficient in the chosen save. Classic Play substitutes the named ordinary save, or Wisdom if none is named. Arousal gains obey the core limit of 3 per turn; no feature here overrides that limit. An Arousal alternative cannot pay a cost unless its entire stated gain can be applied.

Play Modes and Desire Resolution

Classic Play. Use the baseline feature and any expressly stated Classic alternative, without Arousal or Libido. A feature that only modifies Desire has no additional Classic effect.

Veiled Play. Use the baseline and the feature’s Veiled paragraph. Add each stated Arousal gain to the creature’s current total; never assign Composed, Stirred, or Overwhelmed or replace its existing pressure. Resolve Climax immediately at 6. Do not use the Unveiled paragraph.

Unveiled Play. Use the baseline and the feature’s Unveiled paragraph, together with the website’s full Arousal, Libido, Climax, and Depletion rules. Do not inherit the Veiled paragraph. A Libido expenditure requires enough Libido to pay it. Spending the final point does not disable benefits without a Libido cost.

Each feature retains its stated actions, targets, duration, resource costs, and recharge. Changing play modes restores no uses. A gain-dependent benefit requires the Arousal actually to be gained. Unless explicitly excepted, a creature gains at most 3 Arousal per turn; reductions cannot go below 0. Resolve Climax before continuing a feature or applying any after-Climax benefit: the applicable Climax Effect, 1 Libido loss where tracked, Arousal reset to 0, then applicable aftermath triggers. Healing and Exhaustion occur only when an applicable rule grants or imposes them. An EROSave is the creature’s choice of Constitution or Wisdom saving throw, including proficiency only if proficient in that save. Basic Desire Actions retain their one-per-round limit unless an explicit feature overrides it.

Unless a feature expressly states otherwise, this subclass’s EROSave DC is 8 + PB + your Charisma modifier. PB means proficiency bonus.

Communion is the Bloodborn’s Arousal, not another pool. Your own Climax grants Manifestation to your next eligible Bloodborn spell under the parent class’s timing and mode-specific rules. A subclass Climax rider grants neither another Manifestation nor another spell.

Deity Alignment

This origin may resonate with Velyssara through desire as a creative and transformative force. Worship is not required; the path is defined by how a Bloodborn channels the Current and honors personal choice.
