The Velvet Thread

No Dream Leaves Unfitted

In Roseglass Ward, where Amarosa’s finest performers and most improbable adventurers gather, stands a two-story shop with a reputation considerably larger than its footprint. Behind its gilded VL maker’s crest, House Lureveil produces garments so exquisitely designed that nobles consider an appointment a triumph and seasoned Bloomseekers consider a fitting an investment in survival.

The Velvet Thread is not simply a mask shop or a fashionable address. It is the working atelier of Mrs. Veska Lureveil, a Sparkin genius who believes a garment should make the person wearing it more fully themselves—and perform beautifully even when the world becomes dangerous.

Quick Facts

Atmosphere: Meticulous, welcoming under strict conditions, magical, expensive and gloriously opinionated

Meet Mrs. Veska Lureveil

An unmistakably mature Sparkin woman standing approximately 3 feet, 8 inches tall, Veska possesses a towering personality and a magnificent crown of vivid crimson curls. Oversized gold spectacles frame her amber eyes; jeweled masks and pins nestle in her hair. She favors black and garnet garments with ivory accents, gem-set clasps, engineered corsetry and enough concealed tools to outfit a respectable workshop.

Veska is brilliant, exacting, fiercely confident and entirely unimpressed by an expensive title. A duchess may wait beside a wandering adventurer while Veska considers whose problem is more interesting. The latter sometimes receives the appointment.

She is demanding without being casually cruel. Veska believes the wearer decides what should be revealed or concealed; her job is to accomplish it without compromise. Her assessments can be devastating, but her work is almost always worth hearing them.

“Darling, if you wanted ordinary, you should never have come to me.”

The Woman Who Tailors the Impossible

As a young artisan, Veska noticed that even astonishingly expensive clothing often failed the person inside it. Fine armor pinched at the shoulder; ceremonial fabric ignored unusual anatomy; performers were expected to suffer for beauty. She considered these failures of imagination, not unavoidable costs.

She studied textile engineering, enchanted mechanisms and the subtle effects of fabric on movement, confidence and expression. Her aptitude follows the magical crafting traditions of the Relicwright, while her touch and devotion to materials resemble the published Second Skin background. Those links are guides to her character concept; her complete class build is still under refinement.

Veska eventually founded House Lureveil in Amarosa. Her commissions became famous among performers, clergy, merchants and adventurers—especially among clients whose needs other tailors had dismissed. She does not claim to make people beautiful. She claims to make their chosen beauty possible.

The Lureveil Standard

Three rules govern Veska’s work: the garment must suit its wearer, fulfill its intended purpose and survive the life it accompanies. If a dragon can shred the cape, she considers the cape unfinished. If a client cannot walk comfortably in the finest fabric in Erosia, that fabric was the wrong choice.

The House Mark

A signature Lureveil creation bears a discreet interlaced VL, stitched into an inner seam, hidden inside a clasp or worked so precisely into a fastening that another artisan must examine it closely to recognize the maker.

The same monogram hangs above the street entrance. Garnet enamel and antique gold announce the house, but the quality of its work is the truer advertisement. Veska regards enormous decorative labels as a sign that the designer fears the garment cannot speak for itself.

Counterfeit Lureveil markings occasionally appear in Amarosa’s markets. Veska spots them instantly. Proving who made them is a different matter—and a perfectly respectable errand for adventurers.

The People Behind the Velvet Thread

House Lureveil is not operated by Veska alone. Two trusted professionals manage the daily affairs of the atelier. They are colleagues entrusted with its reputation, not servants expected to endure abuse.

Elira Voss — First Assistant and Design Protégée

Silkborn • Fittings, patterns, workshop production. Elira is ambitious, perceptive and exceptionally organized. Her auburn hair is usually pinned into a practical updo, with measuring cords, pattern chalk, scissors and design folios never far from reach. She manages alterations, ordinary consultations and complex project schedules.

Elira hopes to become a celebrated designer under her own name. Veska recognizes her talent and challenges her mercilessly, often without expressing the pride beneath the criticism. An adventurer on a modest budget is likely to work with Elira first—and might find that her solutions are already excellent.

Tavian Nightglass — Master of the House

Dreamborn • Appointments, discretion, contracts and finances. Tall and immaculate, Tavian has twilight-blue skin marked by subtle constellation freckles and carefully groomed silver hair. His clothes are exquisitely made but restrained, allowing his calm precision to do the talking.

Tavian remembers patrons’ names, preferred fabrics, unpaid balances and unfortunate incidents. He manages receptions and protects the staff’s time. Adventurers seeking information or introductions will discover that Tavian knows the city’s influential circles remarkably well, though he does not trade his clients’ confidences casually.

A House in Motion

Visitor: “Tell Mrs. Lureveil I can pay twice her rate.”
Tavian: “How generous. I shall inform her that you wish to purchase a second appointment, should she grant you the first.”

Your First Visit

The visitor enters from the stone street through a carved wooden door into the showroom. The scent of warmed cedar, rose oil and fresh linen drifts over patterned tile. Enchanted pins hover over a cutting table farther inside. Somewhere beyond the fitting screens, Veska is explaining why three additional inches of fabric would constitute a professional catastrophe.

An unusual magical commissionTavian records the request; Veska may request a demonstration, specimen, or detailed measurements.
Information about a suspicious textileElira can assess ordinary workmanship. Veska may recognize the material; neither can infer a culprit without evidence.

The First Fitting

Veska asks three questions before measuring a client: What will you do in it? What should it say about you? What must it never prevent you from doing? Someone commissioning a ball gown receives the same professional seriousness as a warrior requesting a cloak that must accommodate armor, wings or a tail.

Touch and measurements require the client’s agreement. A fitting is a professional service, not permission for intimacy or the disclosure of secrets. Clients may request private rooms, an assistant of their choice, or practical instructions for taking their own measurements.

Inside the Velvet Thread

The Velvet Thread occupies exactly two stories. It is a substantial merchant’s house, not a palace. The ground floor contains the trade rooms and working atelier; the upper floor is reached by an internal stair and holds Veska’s designs, private receiving rooms, an archive and her living quarters.

Ground Floor — Public and Working Rooms

AreaWhat Visitors Find
Street Entrance & ShowroomThe main door, a seasonal display, mannequins, fabrics, accessories and a reception counter watched by Tavian.
Consultation NookSketchboards and comfortable seats for discussing commissions, costs and intended use.
Private Fitting RoomsAdjustable mirrors, measuring ribbons, changing screens and stools accommodating different Erosian sizes.
Cutting & Enchantment WorkshopLong cutting tables, rune-thread, animated needles, working artisans, heavy shears and textile presses.
Secure Commission StoreRare materials, deposits, unfinished masterworks and records requiring staff permission.
Rear Stair & Delivery AccessAn internal stair to the second floor and a modest staff/delivery entrance opening to a service lane.

Upper Floor — Private House

At the top of the same internal stair, a short landing leads to Veska’s design study, her archive of patterns and rare samples, a private consultation room and living quarters. Unlike the ground floor, these rooms are not ordinarily open to browsers. Clients admitted upstairs have impressed Veska, earned Tavian’s trust, or arrived for work too delicate to discuss on the public floor.

Using the Shop in Play

For encounters, the street door opens directly into the showroom; fitting screens provide concealment but not meaningful cover, and the workshop is difficult terrain only when worktables or loose fabrics impede movement. The secure store is locked, while staff can reach the upper floor through the visible rear stair. Any battlemap should preserve these connections—there is no unexplained second structure or disconnected upstairs.

What House Lureveil Makes

Couture for Life in Erosia

Veska designs gowns, formal robes, ceremonial wear and personal ensembles without imposing a single preferred silhouette. Her atelier can accommodate horns, wings, tails, unusual proportions and digitigrade limbs from the first fitting. Clothing may conceal, display, support or celebrate these features, according to the wearer’s choice.

Adventuring Equipment

Lureveil travelwear is made to endure. Cloaks account for packs and quivers. Gloves permit spellcasting and weapon handling. Belts and harnesses maintain accessible tools without compromising movement. Fitted surcoats and reinforcements can be made to work with armor instead of competing with it.

Masks and Performance Attire

The shop supplies extraordinary theater and festival clothing, including private commissions for Velvet Hall. Mask-making is only one part of the house’s work, and never the defining limit of its craft.

Repairs, Refitting & Unusual Commissions

Elira handles normal repairs, hemming and alterations. Complex work may require Veska when a fabric is magical, an anatomical accommodation is unusual, or the garment must retain a protective function after refitting. Repairs do not grant a magical bonus unless a specific item or effect says so.

Seasonal Selection — Ready to Wear

The original Velvet Thread catalog offers affordable garments for ordinary festival-goers as well as the wealthy. These are nonmagical ready-made or semi-custom pieces, not one-of-a-kind signed Lureveil masterworks. Their modest prices are intentional, allowing low-level adventurers to enjoy the shop without pretending they can purchase a royal commission.

Ready-to-Wear — Playable Item Cards

The gallery above presents House Lureveil’s seasonal designs. Each item below has a usable 5e baseline with separate optional Veiled and Unveiled rules. The attire is nonmagical, and its limited social benefits represent exceptional fit, workmanship and confidence rather than an enchantment.

Velour of the Moonlit Court — 5 gp

Apparel or accessory, nonmagical

Black velvet, silver trim and a coordinating half-mask, for an evening of chosen mystery.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing the ensemble at a masked social gathering, add 1d4 to a Charisma (Deception) check made to maintain a chosen social persona. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the result.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while Stirred, ignore the disadvantage that condition imposes on one ability check made to conceal your emotional state. The condition otherwise ends normally.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you succeed on an EROSave against emotional pressure during a masked social encounter, reduce your Arousal by 1, to a minimum of 0.

Petal-Sheer Ensemble — 10 gp

Apparel or accessory, nonmagical

Pale rose gossamer, fashioned as a flowing gown or tunic with accents the wearer may arrange freely.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing this ensemble, add 1d4 to a Charisma (Performance) check involving dance, a ceremony or expressive movement before willing spectators. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the result.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while Stirred, use a bonus action to encourage a willing creature within 10 feet that can see you. That creature gains advantage on its next Charisma (Performance) check within 1 minute.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while at Arousal 1–3, use a bonus action to reduce your Arousal by 1 and grant a willing creature within 10 feet +1d4 to its next Charisma (Performance) check within 1 minute. This does not compel attention or attraction.

The Serpent’s Embrace — 15 gp

Apparel or accessory, nonmagical

A fitted leather-and-gold ceremonial ensemble with a serpent-patterned mask.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing this ensemble, add 1d4 to a Wisdom (Insight) check made to recognize deliberate emotional pressure or manipulation in conversation. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the result.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you resist an effect that would make you Stirred, gain advantage on your next Wisdom (Insight) check within 10 minutes.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you succeed on an EROSave against emotional manipulation while your Arousal is 1 or higher, gain advantage on your next Wisdom (Insight) check within 10 minutes. The garment does not automatically reveal lies or thoughts.

Midnight Bloom — 20 gp

Apparel or accessory, nonmagical

Dark embroidered attire bearing silvery night-garden flowers, for guests who treasure discretion.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing Midnight Bloom in a crowded gathering, gain advantage on a Dexterity (Stealth) check to blend into the crowd, provided you could ordinarily attempt to hide.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you become Stirred, ignore the disadvantage that condition imposes on your next ability check to conceal your feelings. This does not prevent the triggering effect.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when a social effect would increase your Arousal by 1, you may reduce that increase to 0. All other effects from the same source still apply.

Masque of Scandal — 25 gp

Apparel or accessory, nonmagical

Violet-and-gold occasion wear with a feathered mask and small ornamental bells.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing this ensemble, add 1d4 to a Charisma (Performance) check for a dramatic entrance, public presentation or theatrical performance. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the result.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you become Stirred during a willing performance or social celebration, choose a willing creature within 10 feet. It gains advantage on its next Charisma (Performance) check within 1 minute.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you resolve a Climax during a consensual performance or ritual, choose a willing creature within 10 feet. Both of you gain +1d4 on your next Charisma (Performance) checks within 10 minutes. The outfit does not cause Climax or change its Libido cost.

Simple Satin Mask — From 2 gp

Apparel or accessory, nonmagical

An inexpensive satin half-mask with easy ties in the seasonal colors of Roseglass Ward.

Base Effect (5e). The mask partially obscures the face. It does not alter a voice or magical identity, grant automatic advantage, or prevent recognition by someone familiar with the wearer.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while wearing the mask, ignore the disadvantage that Stirred imposes on one ability check made to conceal your feelings during a masked social encounter.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you make an EROSave against emotional pressure during a masked social encounter, add +1 after seeing the d20 but before the DM announces the result.

Elaborate Fitted Mask — From 10 gp

Apparel or accessory, nonmagical

A custom-fitted silk-and-gem mask, with optional featherwork designed for a chosen persona.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing the mask at a masked gathering, add 1d4 to a Charisma (Performance) check to portray a chosen role. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the result.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while Stirred, gain advantage on a Charisma (Performance) check involving the role represented by the mask. Declare this before rolling.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you succeed on an EROSave at a masked social gathering while your Arousal is 1 or higher, add 1d4 to your next Charisma (Performance) check within 10 minutes. The mask is not a magical disguise.

Lureveil Masterworks

Masterworks carry Veska’s full artistic attention and a discreet maker’s mark. Their prices reflect exceptional materials, lengthy research and the difficulty of combining beautiful form with practical function. Players should receive more than a boast when they purchase one: the item needs clear uses and limits at the table.

Commissioning a Masterwork

A commission begins with a purpose, a willing wearer, agreed design boundaries and measurements. Tavian establishes the contract and schedule, Elira prepares patterns and material tests, and Veska approves the final design. Magical work may require a rare thread, living leather, unusual gemstone or another component the House cannot obtain through normal suppliers.

“No dream leaves unfitted. That does not mean every dream can be finished by the end of the week.”

From Veska’s Collection

The following pieces are draft game-ready designs for the Velvet Thread. Prices and magic-item classifications are proposals to be reconciled with Second Bloom’s item rules before publication. In Classic Play they use the baseline effect; the Veiled and Unveiled variants never stack unless an item explicitly says they do.

The Veil Eternal — 500 gp

Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)

Base Effect (5e). An exquisitely fitted veil and matching mask that take on subtle colors appropriate to the wearer’s chosen attire. Once per long rest, the wearer may use an action to produce an illusion that changes the appearance of their clothes and accessories only for up to 1 hour. This effect functions as the clothing portion of disguise self; it does not change the wearer’s face, voice, body or actual equipment properties. Physical interaction can reveal the illusion.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while the veil’s illusion is active, when you become Stirred, you may end the Stirred condition after resolving the triggering effect. This does not prevent an Overwhelmed outcome already being resolved.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while the veil’s illusion is active, when you succeed on an EROSave against emotional or sensual magic, you may reduce your Arousal by 1, to a minimum of 0. The veil does not influence another creature’s attraction, choices or consent.

“A thousand appearances, darling, and every one of them still belongs to you.” — Mrs. Veska Lureveil

Seamkeeper Brooch — 75 gp

Wondrous item, common

Base Effect (5e). This enamel-and-silver fastener holds a tiny coil of enchanted thread. Once per long rest, its wearer may use an action to cast mending, provided the target is a torn or broken article of clothing, leatherwork, or fabric. The spell’s normal size and repair limitations apply; the brooch does not repair destroyed items or restore the magical qualities of damaged equipment.

Veiled Mechanics. When you activate the brooch to repair clothing belonging to yourself or a willing creature within 5 feet, the owner may immediately end the Stirred condition affecting them.

Unveiled Mechanics. When you activate the brooch to repair clothing belonging to yourself or a willing creature within 5 feet, the owner may reduce their Arousal by 1, to a minimum of 0. Only one creature benefits from this optional Desire interaction per activation.

“A torn seam is easily repaired. A wounded confidence requires a more delicate stitch.” — Mrs. Veska Lureveil

Lureveil Expedition Harness — 450 gp

Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)

Base Effect (5e). A discreet fitted belt-and-shoulder arrangement with flexible pouches and adjustable fittings. Once on each of your turns, you can draw or stow a nonweapon tool carried in the harness as part of the action used to employ that tool. Once per long rest, when you fail a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check while wearing the harness, you may reroll the check, using the new result. The harness does not change carrying capacity or negate armor restrictions.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you become Stirred while wearing the harness, you gain advantage on your next Dexterity (Acrobatics) or Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check made before the end of your next turn.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while at Arousal 1–4, when you make a Dexterity (Acrobatics) or Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check involving a tool or fitting carried in the harness, you may add 1d4 after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the outcome. This does not expend Libido or change your Arousal.

“A magnificent outfit is worthless if it cannot survive an adventure. Especially one involving dragons.” — Mrs. Veska Lureveil

Autumn Vigil — A Thousand Ways to Be Seen

The Velvet Thread is at its busiest before the Night of a Thousand Masks at nearby Velvet Hall. Performers, adventurers and invited patrons seek costumes ranging from cheerful disguises to elaborate commissioned identities. The house maintains a seasonal display alongside its permanent offerings, but no mask obliges its wearer to reveal a personal secret or assume a role against their will.

Autumn CollectionSuggested PriceWhat Makes It Special
Lanternfall Cape35 gpA dark garnet cape with embroidered amber leaves and a lantern-catching lining; nonmagical.
Mothglass Half-Mask20 gpA translucent wing-pattern half-mask designed for comfortable performance; nonmagical.
Harvest Bloom Cord15 gpA reversible silk sash with floral and thorn patterns, fitted to the wearer’s preferred silhouette; nonmagical.

Lanternfall Cape — 35 gp

Apparel (cape), nonmagical

A sweeping cape of dark garnet fabric embroidered with amber leaves, its reflective lining catching every flicker of lanternlight. Made for autumn masquerades and evening performances.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing the cape in visible lanternlight, candlelight or firelight, you may add 1d4 to a Charisma (Performance) check made to command an audience’s attention. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the outcome.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while Stirred during a willing performance or festival celebration, you may gain advantage on your next Charisma (Performance) check made within 1 minute.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, during a willing performance or festival celebration in lanternlight, you may voluntarily gain 1 Arousal, to a maximum of 2, and gain advantage on your next Charisma (Performance) check within 1 minute. This cannot trigger Climax. The cape produces no light and does not compel admiration.

“The secret to making an entrance, darling, is knowing exactly when everyone should look.” — Mrs. Veska Lureveil

Mothglass Half-Mask — 20 gp

Apparel (half-mask), nonmagical

A translucent half-mask patterned like moth wings. Its flexible construction accommodates breathing, conversation and expressive performance.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing the mask at a masquerade or masked social gathering, you may add 1d4 to a Charisma (Deception) check made to maintain a chosen social persona. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the outcome. The mask does not magically conceal your identity.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while Stirred during a willing masked conversation, you gain advantage on your next Wisdom (Insight) check made within 1 minute to interpret another participant’s openly expressed emotions or intentions.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, when you succeed on an EROSave during a willing masked social interaction while your Arousal is 1 or higher, you may add 1d4 to your next Wisdom (Insight) check made within 10 minutes. The mask cannot reveal thoughts or detect lies.

“Anticipation, darling. Never underestimate the beauty of something not yet revealed.” — Mrs. Veska Lureveil

Harvest Bloom Cord — 15 gp

Apparel (reversible ceremonial sash), nonmagical

Finely woven silk with amber-and-rose blossoms on one side and dark curling thornwork on the other. Wear it at the waist, over one shoulder or integrated into another garment. The floral side expresses openness; the thorn side represents chosen boundaries.

Base Effect (5e). Once per long rest, while wearing the sash, invoke one benefit based on the side displayed: Bloom: Add 1d4 to a Charisma (Persuasion) check during a willing, friendly social interaction. Thorn: Add 1d4 to a Wisdom (Insight) check to recognize emotional pressure or manipulation. Add the die after rolling the d20 but before the DM announces the outcome. Reversing the sash requires an object interaction and does not restore its expended use.

Veiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while Stirred, you may reverse the sash to its thorn-patterned side as an object interaction and immediately end the Stirred condition. This does not end other conditions or magical effects.

Unveiled Mechanics. Once per long rest, while at Arousal 1–4, spend 1 uninterrupted minute adjusting the sash and centering yourself to reduce your Arousal by 1, to a minimum of 0. This does not restore Libido, interrupt Climax or end other conditions.

“Bloom when you wish to be seen. Keep your thorns when you wish to be left alone. Both are beautiful.” — Mrs. Veska Lureveil

A Mask Worth Wearing

Veska recommends selecting a costume by asking what a person wishes to express, not what will shock the greatest number of people. Guests who arrive undecided may be introduced to a range of designs by Elira, while Tavian arranges the timing of private appointments around festival preparations.

Becoming a Regular

Adventurers need not be wealthy to develop a relationship with House Lureveil. Veska respects professional curiosity, integrity and the courage to attempt difficult things. The House may offer services or introductions as trust grows, but access is earned through conduct rather than a simple count of purchases.

RelationshipHow the House Responds
First-time visitorTavian arranges the appropriate clerk or fitting. Elira offers repairs and the seasonal selection.
Returning customerElira remembers measurements, styles and prior alterations, shortening routine consultations.
Trusted clientTavian may arrange a private meeting, recommend an artisan or explain ordinary points of etiquette.
Favored collaboratorVeska considers ambitious commissions and rare-material projects, particularly those involving an innovative challenge.

A Word From Veska

“The garment belongs to the person who wears it. I am merely the genius who made it possible.”

Whispers Beneath the Silk

House Lureveil stands at the crossroads of commerce, entertainment, private society and adventuring work. The following rumors are designed to reach the party through fitting-room conversation, a returned commission, a difficult customer or a discreet inquiry from Tavian.

Roll 1d4 when the characters ask for gossip or let the scene suggest an entry. The descriptions below expand each whisper, and the DM-only panel supplies its underlying truth.

d4Whispers Beneath the Silk
1A paid-for ceremonial commission is waiting for a patron who vanished.
2A violet fabric fragment refuses every ordinary needle.
3A theatrical mask begins showing a face its wearer does not recognize.
4Counterfeit Lureveil crests are appearing at festival stalls.

The Unclaimed Commission

A silver ceremonial outfit waits for a patron who has vanished. The garment was paid for in full, but an unfamiliar object has been tucked into an inner pocket since the last fitting.

The Impossible Stitch

A traveler brings Elira a violet fabric fragment that refuses every needle. Veska believes she has seen its peculiar construction before, though she dislikes discussing the circumstances.

The Wrong Face

A mask sold as a harmless theatrical accessory begins displaying an unfamiliar reflection. Its owner is convinced the face is trying to communicate something.

The Counterfeit Crest

Cheap pieces carrying crude copies of the VL emblem circulate among festival stalls. Veska considers the forgery an insult; Tavian is more concerned that someone knows the house’s private maker’s marks.

For the DM — Behind the Lureveil Whispers
  • The Unclaimed Commission. The concealed object is a small token bearing the mark of a private invitation society. Its owner took the commission under a false name, fearing that a powerful associate had learned of their plans. Veska knows what was ordered and when, but not why the patron disappeared.
  • The Impossible Stitch. The cloth recalls a commission once associated with the fallen sanctuary of Cyrillith outside Amarosa. Veska can identify its unusual weave and describe the order’s materials; discovering how the new fragment reached the city requires investigation. Do not treat this clue as proof of guilt.
  • The Wrong Face. Someone has altered a theatrical enchantment or replaced the mask after sale. Elira recognizes the original clasp and Veska can confirm the harmless effect the item once carried. The mask’s altered purpose depends upon the adventure.
  • The Counterfeit Crest. A rival producer or broker is studying genuine Lureveil garments to reproduce the maker’s mark. A credible forgery might gain access to the same customers who use elaborate clothing to hide valuable objects.
  • Running the mystery. Veska notices defects; Elira recognizes construction and inventories; Tavian knows who requested an appointment and what was recorded in the books. None of them can identify a culprit without evidence. Let their expertise give adventurers a trail to follow rather than resolving the case for them.

A Place in Your Campaign

The Velvet Thread works best as a recurring location. It can provide practical upgrades between expeditions, become an introduction to Roseglass Ward society, reward a difficult materials quest, or offer a quiet place where adventurers learn that clothing can carry evidence, memory and magical power.

A Fitting Worth an Expedition

Veska agrees to make a rare adaptive garment, but its weave requires a material that exists only in a dangerous ruin or distant habitat. She can supply patterns and expert advice; the characters must obtain the material themselves.

The Hidden Maker’s Mark

A noble hires the characters to authenticate an heirloom costume before the Night of a Thousand Masks. The mark is genuine, but the piece includes a modification Veska never made.

Elira’s First Collection

Elira asks for help acquiring a material for her first independently designed collection. Veska’s reaction might be pride, unwelcome scrutiny, or a professional challenge that complicates the apprentice’s future.

Tavian’s Quiet Favor

An invitation intended for one of the House’s private customers goes missing. Tavian wants the envelope recovered without compromising the patron’s confidentiality or attracting the wrong sort of attention.

Traits

Brilliant Reflexes (1/Long Rest). Veska can reroll a failed Intelligence, Dexterity or tool check, taking the second result.

Master Artisan. When Veska makes an ability check using proficient artisan’s tools or tinker’s tools, a d20 result of 9 or lower is treated as a 10.

By Hand and Weave. Through her Second Skin background, she can identify ordinary textile and leather construction, likely quality, common repairs and familiar provenance. This feature does not reveal a maker’s intentions, unknown magical effects or information unsupported by physical evidence.

Signature Fitting (House Rule; 1/Long Rest per Client). After at least 10 minutes adjusting a willing creature’s nonmagical garment, Veska can give that creature a d4 fitting die. The creature may add the die to one Charisma (Performance) check made while wearing the garment within the next 8 hours. Only one such fitting die may be held at once; it does not affect attack rolls, saving throws or consent.

Actions

Mending. Veska casts mending using her Sparkin Sparkcraft ability (Intelligence). When appropriate, the casting appears as an animated golden needle or shimmer of fine thread. The spell’s normal limitations apply.

Workshop Magic. Veska’s Relicwright features allow small, prepared magical creations and specialized equipment. The DM should use the published Relicwright rules for any fully resolved spellcasting or Spark expenditure instead of treating her narrative workshop effects as unlimited combat abilities.

Classic, Veiled & Unveiled Play

Classic: Use the profile without tracking Libido or Arousal. Veska’s craft, wit and judgment resolve through normal ability checks and roleplay.

Veiled: Use the composed, stirred and overwhelmed narrative-pressure states where a published effect calls for them; no default tracking of Libido.

Unveiled: Proposed maximum Libido 7 (proficiency bonus 5 + Constitution modifier 2), Arousal begins at 0 on the published 0–6 track, and EROSaves use Constitution +7 or Wisdom +2 as applicable. Her Second Skin background establishes the character of her interests, not a free-standing automatic Arousal trigger. Arousal occurs only when an explicit effect supplies it. At the Table

Veska’s gameplay rhythm is observe → judge → design → craft → refine → reveal. Her insights should create choices for players, not solve the scenario for them. Elira supplies practical work and alternative viewpoints. Tavian manages access, privacy and delicate social consequences.

Bring the Velvet Thread to Your Table

Introduce the location when the characters need festival clothing, repaired adventuring gear, an impossible magical commission or help identifying a suspicious garment. A few lines of dialogue and an offer of competent service are enough to make the House feel like part of their regular life in Amarosa.

A useful scene begins with Tavian greeting the party, Elira noticing something about their equipment, and Veska deciding whether the matter warrants her attention. The characters can accept advice, seek an appointment, browse the ready-to-wear collection or leave without being forced into an adventure.

For the underlying character-building philosophy, see Building Your First Erosian Character. For the optional emotional-pressure system, see Mechanics of Desire.

A Fitting at Your Table

For a practical session, let the characters browse the image gallery, select a garment by purpose and presentation, and consult its written Classic, Veiled or Unveiled rules. Veska’s fittings are invitations to roleplay, not automatic Desire triggers.

  • Opening scene: Tavian greets the party, Elira checks a damaged clasp, and Veska makes a sharply perceptive observation.
  • Decision: Each adventurer chooses whether to purchase ready-to-wear, commission an alteration or pursue rare materials.
  • At the table: Use the shop maps for an encounter, the seasonal item cards for downtime and the rumor table to open an adventure.
  • Behind the screen: Open Veska’s game-statistics panel only if her abilities matter in play.

Explore Roseglass Ward

Visit Roseglass Ward for Amarosa’s performance halls, festival spaces, bathhouses and other shops. House Lureveil maintains professional connections to Velvet Hall and the faith of Cyrillith, the Masquerade Sovereign, while remaining an independent couture house. The private Masquerade of a Hundred Faces and the public Night of a Thousand Masks make the district especially lively during Autumn Vigil.

Elsewhere in the ward, The Winking Eye offers hospitality, performances and discreet rumors, while Skin & Smile specializes in self-care and enchanted personal goods. Adventurers seeking metal armor or protective equipment can visit Rock Hard Smithing in the Underbriar Warrens. For the full directory of businesses and districts, return to Amarosa.
