By observing the construction, colors, materials, and manner in which a mask is worn, you can usually recognize familiar signals of mourning, celebration, courtship, rank, profession, religious observance, or a desire not to be approached.

You can also identify obvious flaws in mundane disguises, such as poorly matched cosmetics, an incorrectly worn uniform, inconsistent posture, or clothing unsuited to the identity being presented. This does not reveal the true identity of a disguised creature, defeat magic, or replace an ability check when someone is actively attempting to deceive you.

Actors, costumers, mask-makers, courtiers, informants, pleasure-house hosts, and organizers of private masquerades recognize your knowledge of their customs. In a settlement where masked society exists, you can usually locate a reputable costume maker, discreet gathering place, or intermediary familiar with upcoming public masquerades.
