“Desire leaves Echoes. The Veil remembers. A Veilwalker simply learns to listen.”
The Veilwalker
Some warriors master the battlefield through strength. Some scholars master it through knowledge. Veilwalkers master it through understanding.
Every meaningful action leaves its mark upon the Veil. A whispered lie, a desperate prayer, a shattered blade, or an ancient lock worn smooth by centuries of careful hands all leave behind lingering impressions. Most creatures pass through the world without ever recognizing these traces. A Veilwalker sees them everywhere.
To a Veilwalker, every battlefield tells a story before the first blade is drawn. Every conversation reveals more than the words spoken aloud. Every ruin remembers those who built it. Every creature, object, and place carries subtle Echoes left behind by desire, intention, conflict, and consequence.
Veilwalkers devote themselves to the disciplined art of observation. They study movements before attacks are made, hesitation before lies are spoken, and silence before hidden truths reveal themselves. Rather than forcing opportunity into existence, they uncover the opportunities that already exist.
Within Erosia, Veilwalkers serve as investigators, scouts, spies, diplomats, relic hunters, inquisitors, bounty hunters, historians, monster trackers, and seekers of forgotten knowledge. Many become trusted advisors to queens and temples alike, while others wander the world chasing mysteries that only they can perceive. Wherever hidden truths shape the course of history, a Veilwalker is never far behind.
Creating a Veilwalker
When creating your Veilwalker, consider what first taught your character that the world speaks through details others ignore. Were you trained by an aging investigator who taught you to read a room before entering it? Did years as a thief reveal that every lock carries the signature of its maker? Were you raised among spies, monster hunters, or scholars who believed that understanding was the greatest weapon ever forged?
Also consider how your Veilwalker interprets the Echoes surrounding them. Do they quietly observe before speaking, patiently assembling every clue into a complete picture? Do they delight in exposing deception with dramatic certainty? Or do they move through the world with calm confidence, waiting for the single decisive Opening that changes everything?
Every Veilwalker eventually learns the same lesson.
The world is never truly silent.
It is always speaking.

The Echoes of Desire

Most adventurers overcome obstacles through strength, magic, or unwavering determination. Veilwalkers overcome them through understanding.
Every meaningful action leaves behind an Echo. Desire, intention, fear, devotion, conflict, triumph, failure, and even simple acts of craftsmanship all leave subtle impressions upon the Veil. Most creatures move through the world without ever recognizing these lingering traces. Veilwalkers devote themselves to hearing what the world remembers.
A careful glance across a battlefield reveals more than fallen soldiers. A weathered lock remembers the hands that forged it. A strained smile betrays hidden fear before a single word is spoken. Every Echo tells part of a larger story, and every story contains an Opening waiting to be discovered.
A skilled Veilwalker learns that opportunity is never created from nothing. It already exists, hidden within the people, places, and events surrounding them. By reading Echoes and exposing these Openings, a Veilwalker transforms understanding into decisive action.
The deeper a Veilwalker’s understanding becomes, the closer they move toward a state known as Revelation. During Revelation, scattered observations resolve into perfect clarity, allowing the Veilwalker to perceive the world exactly as it is and act with absolute certainty.
Masters of Opportunity
Unlike many classes, Veilwalkers rarely overcome challenges through overwhelming force alone. Their greatest strength lies in recognizing decisive moments before anyone else.
When a Warbound sees an enemy, they see a battle. When an Anointed sees suffering, they see someone to protect. When a Reveler sees emotion, they see momentum. A Veilwalker sees possibility.
A single hesitation.
A weakened stance.
A concealed passage.
A forgotten mechanism.
A hidden motive.
Each represents an Opening waiting to be exposed.
The Veilwalker’s Climax is known as Revelation. Through disciplined observation and patient understanding, the Veilwalker gathers scattered Echoes until uncertainty disappears. Every clue finds its place. Every hidden truth becomes unmistakable. Every Opening stands revealed. A master Veilwalker knows that victory rarely belongs to the strongest combatant. It belongs to the one who acts at precisely the right moment.
Echoes
Every creature, object, location, and event carries lingering impressions left behind by desire, intention, conflict, emotion, and consequence. These impressions are known as Echoes.
Most creatures never perceive Echoes. To them, the world simply exists as it appears. Veilwalkers learn that beneath every visible event lies another story waiting to be uncovered.
As a Veilwalker, Echoes form the foundation of your class. Many of your class features allow you to perceive Echoes, interpret their meaning, and expose the Openings they conceal. Other features allow you to exploit those Openings through precise attacks, tactical positioning, social insight, exploration, and careful manipulation of the world around you.
As your mastery grows, your understanding deepens. What begins as careful observation eventually becomes instinctive certainty, culminating in Revelation, where every Echo becomes part of a single, undeniable truth.
Read Echoes
1st-Level Veilwalker Feature
You have learned to perceive the lingering impressions left behind whenever desire, intention, emotion, conflict, or consequence changes the world. These impressions, known as Echoes, reveal hidden truths to those patient enough to observe them.
To a Veilwalker, every battlefield, conversation, ruin, relic, and living creature tells a story. A shifted stance, a weathered lock, a hesitant glance, or an ancient scar may each reveal an Opening invisible to everyone else. Through disciplined observation, you learn to assemble these fragments into understanding before transforming that understanding into decisive action.
Many of your Veilwalker features build upon Read Echoes. Some improve your ability to perceive Echoes. Others allow you to expose the Openings they conceal or exploit those Openings before they disappear.
As you gain levels in this class, your mastery of Echoes deepens until observation becomes instinct and instinct becomes Revelation.
Quickstart (Veiled Play). During Veiled Play, creatures experiencing heightened emotional pressure naturally leave stronger Echoes. Whenever a Veilwalker feature references an Echo or Opening, creatures with higher Arousal are considered easier to read at the DM’s discretion.
Advanced Mechanics (Unveiled Play). During Unveiled Play, the Desire Cycle directly shapes the Echoes creatures leave behind. Rising Arousal strengthens emotional Echoes, while Climax creates the most vivid and revealing Echoes of all. Features that interact with Echoes may gain additional benefits as described in those features.
Expertise
1st-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your relentless pursuit of hidden truths has honed your talents beyond ordinary mastery. Choose two of your skill proficiencies, or one of your skill proficiencies and your proficiency with thieves’ tools. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make using the chosen proficiencies.
At 6th level, you choose two more of your proficiencies (in skills or with thieves’ tools) to gain this benefit.
Although any proficiency may benefit from your Expertise, most Veilwalkers naturally excel in Perception, Insight, and Investigation, using these skills to uncover Echoes that others overlook.
Sneak Attack
1st-Level Veilwalker Feature
You have learned to strike with deadly precision whenever an opponent reveals an Opening.
Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack using a finesse or ranged weapon if you have Advantage on the attack roll. You don’t need Advantage if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn’t Incapacitated, and you don’t have Disadvantage on the attack roll.
The extra damage increases as you gain levels in this class, as shown in the Veilwalker table.
To a Veilwalker, Sneak Attack is not merely a surprise attack. It is the decisive exploitation of an Opening that has been recognized through careful observation. Whether that Opening is a lapse in defense, an overextended strike, a moment of hesitation, or an exposed weakness, a Veilwalker knows that every opportunity exists only briefly before it vanishes once more.
Quickstart (Veiled Play). A creature whose emotional pressure has become obvious often reveals more apparent Openings. Veiled Play emphasizes the narrative connection between emotional vulnerability and the opportunities exploited by Sneak Attack without changing the feature’s normal rules.
Advanced Mechanics (Unveiled Play). Creatures approaching Climax often reveal their greatest Openings. Certain Veilwalker features may allow you to capitalize on these moments in unique ways without altering the normal conditions required for Sneak Attack.
Cunning Action
2nd-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your pursuit of hidden truths has taught you that opportunity rarely waits for those who hesitate.
Beginning at 2nd level, your quick thinking and practiced agility allow you to move through the battlefield with remarkable efficiency. On each of your turns in combat, you can take a Bonus Action to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action.
To a Veilwalker, movement is more than speed. Every new vantage point reveals different Echoes, every step changes perspective, and every repositioning may uncover an Opening that remained hidden only moments before.
Veilwalker Calling
3rd-Level Veilwalker Feature
No two Veilwalkers learn to interpret the Echoes of the world in quite the same way.
Some devote themselves to unraveling forgotten histories hidden within ancient ruins and relics. Others study the subtle language of emotion, uncovering motives concealed behind carefully crafted words. Still others master the rhythm of battle itself, recognizing decisive moments before blades ever cross.
Choose a Veilwalker Calling, representing the philosophy through which your character interprets the world’s Echoes.
Your Calling grants you features at 3rd level and again at higher levels as described in its subclass.
Expose
3rd-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your study of the world’s Echoes allows you to reveal fleeting opportunities hidden within creatures, objects, places, and unfolding events.
As a bonus action, choose one creature, object, location, or ongoing situation you can perceive within 60 feet. Describe how your Veilwalker studies the target, then make a Wisdom (Perception), Wisdom (Insight), or Intelligence (Investigation) check appropriate to the target. The DM determines the DC or resolves the check against an appropriate passive score.
On a success, you Expose an Opening. The DM describes an actionable opportunity already present within the scene. An Opening never creates a weakness that did not already exist. Instead, it reveals a physical vulnerability, emotional tell, tactical mistake, hidden passage, structural flaw, magical instability, concealed motive, environmental hazard, or another meaningful opportunity appropriate to the target.
An Opening remains Exposed until it is exploited, circumstances meaningfully change, or 1 minute passes. A creature, object, location, or situation can normally have only one Exposed Opening at a time.
The Nature of an Opening
An Opening is a fleeting opportunity hidden within a creature, object, place, or situation. It represents a meaningful truth waiting to be recognized rather than a weakness created by the Veilwalker. Once an Opening has been exploited—or circumstances meaningfully change—it closes, and new Echoes must be observed before another Opening can be revealed.
Many Veilwalker features and your Veilwalker Calling expand the ways you discover, expose, and exploit Openings.
Veiled Play. During Veiled Play, creatures experiencing heightened Arousal often leave stronger emotional Echoes. At the DM’s discretion, emotionally compromised creatures may have lower effective passive scores against Expose or reveal more obvious Openings.
Unveiled Play. During Unveiled Play, Arousal, Libido, and Climax directly influence the Echoes creatures leave behind. As emotional pressure increases, Echoes become richer and more revealing. Creatures approaching or experiencing Climax often expose the most significant Openings in an encounter, allowing experienced Veilwalkers to uncover truths that would otherwise remain hidden.
Ability Score Improvement
4th-Level Veilwalker Feature
You refine the talents that allow you to uncover hidden truths and act upon them with precision. You gain the Ability Score Improvement feature, allowing you to increase one ability score of your choice by 2, increase two ability scores of your choice by 1 each, or select a feat for which you qualify, following your group’s character advancement rules.
Many Veilwalkers use this opportunity to sharpen the keen perception, disciplined insight, and practiced agility that define their craft. Whether you become more observant, more elusive, or more adaptable, every improvement brings you closer to mastering the hidden language of Echoes.
Uncanny Dodge
5th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Long before a blade reaches its mark or an arrow leaves the bowstring, the world begins to reveal its intentions. Your understanding of Echoes allows you to recognize danger in the moments before it fully manifests. By reading an opponent’s shifting balance, subtle tension, or unconscious habits, you react before others even recognize the threat.
When an attacker that you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your Reaction to halve the attack’s damage against you. A Veilwalker does not avoid danger through impossible reflexes alone. They avoid it because they saw it coming.
Veiled Play. Creatures experiencing heightened Arousal often telegraph their intentions more clearly, making their attacks easier to anticipate narratively.
Unveiled Play. During Unveiled Play, attacks made by creatures with elevated Arousal leave stronger emotional Echoes, reinforcing the Veilwalker’s ability to anticipate danger.
Expertise
6th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your relentless pursuit of hidden truths has refined your talents beyond ordinary mastery. Choose two more of your skill proficiencies, or one more skill proficiency and your proficiency with thieves’ tools. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make using the chosen proficiencies.
Years spent studying the world’s Echoes have taught you that the smallest overlooked detail often reveals the greatest truth.
Evasion
7th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Every explosion begins with a spark. Every collapsing ceiling begins with a crack. Every spell leaves subtle signs before its power is unleashed. Your awareness of these fleeting warnings allows you to escape danger where others would be caught unaware. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage on a successful save and only half damage if you fail.
A Veilwalker survives not because fortune favors them, but because they recognize the moment to move.
Ability Score Improvement
8th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your understanding of the world’s hidden stories continues to grow. You gain the Ability Score Improvement feature, allowing you to increase one ability score of your choice by 2, increase two ability scores of your choice by 1 each, or select a feat for which you qualify, following your group’s character advancement rules.
Expanded Awareness
9th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your understanding of Echoes has grown beyond simple discovery. Where others perceive a single opportunity, you recognize that every meaningful event contains many possible paths. When you successfully use Expose, the DM determines two or more meaningful Openings that exist within the target. The DM describes each Opening in broad terms, allowing you to choose which one to reveal. Each Opening must already exist within the creature, object, location, or situation. An Opening never creates a new weakness; it simply reveals one that was previously hidden.
The Openings presented should represent different kinds of opportunities whenever possible. A creature might reveal both a physical weakness and an emotional vulnerability. A ruined temple might reveal both a hidden passage and an unstable support. A noble might expose both a concealed motive and a fragile political alliance.
Once you choose an Opening, it becomes Exposed as normal. The remaining possibilities fade as circumstances continue to evolve. A master Veilwalker no longer asks whether an opportunity exists. They choose which opportunity matters most.
Veiled Play. Heightened emotional pressure often creates additional emotional and social Openings, giving the Veilwalker more meaningful choices when interpreting another creature’s Echoes.
Unveiled Play. As creatures progress through the Desire Cycle, their Echoes become richer and more layered. Expanded Awareness allows you to perceive increasingly subtle possibilities hidden beneath those Echoes, especially as emotional pressure approaches Climax.
Ability Score Improvement
10th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your mastery of observation continues to sharpen both mind and body. You gain the Ability Score Improvement feature, allowing you to increase one ability score of your choice by 2, increase two ability scores of your choice by 1 each, or select a feat for which you qualify, following your group’s character advancement rules.
Reliable Talent
11th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Years spent studying the world’s hidden stories have transformed observation into instinct. Whenever you make an ability check that uses one of your skill or tool proficiencies, you can treat a d20 roll of 9 or lower as a 10.
Few details escape your notice. Whether examining ancient ruins, negotiating delicate politics, tracking elusive prey, or uncovering hidden motives, your practiced discipline allows you to recognize truths that others consistently overlook.
To a master Veilwalker, certainty is rarely accidental. It is earned.
Ability Score Improvement
12th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your mastery of the Veil’s hidden language continues to deepen. You gain the Ability Score Improvement feature, allowing you to increase one ability score of your choice by 2, increase two ability scores of your choice by 1 each, or select a feat for which you qualify, following your group’s character advancement rules.
Deeper Revelations
13th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your understanding of Echoes extends beyond the obvious, allowing you to perceive truths hidden beneath even the most carefully guarded appearances. When you successfully Expose an Opening, your understanding reaches beyond the immediate opportunity. In addition to the chosen Opening, you may ask the DM one of the following questions about the target:
- What is this creature trying to conceal?
- What does this creature fear most in this moment?
- What aspect of this creature, object, place, or situation is most vulnerable?
- What unseen influence is affecting this target?
- What would most dramatically change this situation?
The DM answers truthfully based upon information your character could reasonably infer from the discovered Echoes. If the answer would reveal information beyond the scope of the current scene, the DM instead provides the most meaningful insight available.
A Veilwalker no longer studies merely what is seen. They begin to understand what remains hidden.
Veiled Play. Emotional pressure often reveals deeper motives than creatures intend to display, allowing Deeper Revelations to uncover increasingly personal truths.
Unveiled Play. Strong Echoes created by rising Arousal and Climax often expose emotional truths that cannot be hidden beneath ordinary composure.
Blindsense
14th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Echoes do not rely upon sight alone. If you are able to hear, you are aware of the location of any hidden or Invisible creature within 10 feet of you. Even in darkness, smoke, magical concealment, or blinding light, the Veil continues to whisper its hidden stories to those who know how to listen.
Slippery Mind
15th-Level Veilwalker Feature
A lifetime spent uncovering deception has made your own thoughts remarkably difficult to manipulate. You gain proficiency in Wisdom saving throws. If you already have proficiency in Wisdom saving throws, you instead gain proficiency in Charisma saving throws. Your own composure becomes as carefully guarded as the secrets you uncover in others.
Veiled Play. Your disciplined composure makes it difficult for others to influence your emotional state through ordinary means.
Unveiled Play. Your mastery of your own Desire Cycle strengthens your resistance against effects that manipulate Arousal, emotional pressure, or supernatural compulsion.
Ability Score Improvement
16th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your mastery of observation, precision, and understanding continues to evolve. You gain the Ability Score Improvement feature, allowing you to increase one ability score of your choice by 2, increase two ability scores of your choice by 1 each, or select a feat for which you qualify, following your group’s character advancement rules.
Revelation
17th-Level Veilwalker Feature
There comes a moment when every scattered Echo, every subtle clue, and every hidden truth suddenly resolves into perfect understanding. This moment is known as Revelation. As a bonus action, you enter a state of extraordinary clarity that lasts for 1 minute. During Revelation, the countless Echoes surrounding you align into a single, unmistakable story. While Revelation is active:
- Whenever you use Expose, you perceive all meaningful Openings within the chosen target instead of choosing between multiple possibilities.
- You may Expose one additional Opening during each use of Expose. Each Opening must still represent a meaningful opportunity already present within the target.
- Creatures cannot hide emotional, tactical, or environmental Openings from you through ordinary deception alone. Only magic or abilities specifically designed to conceal such truths can prevent your observations.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest. A Veilwalker who reaches Revelation no longer searches for opportunity. For one fleeting moment…They simply see it.
Veiled Play. During Revelation, creatures experiencing heightened Arousal become almost impossible to deceive you about, as their emotional Echoes shine with remarkable clarity.
Unveiled Play. Revelation represents the Veilwalker’s Climax. Emotional pressure no longer appears as isolated Echoes but as a complete tapestry of intention, desire, restraint, and consequence. For a brief time, the Veilwalker perceives the encounter exactly as it truly is.
Elusive
18th-Level Veilwalker Feature
The longer you spend studying the world’s hidden stories, the more carefully you guard your own. No attack roll has Advantage against you while you aren’t Incapacitated. Years of disciplined observation have taught you not only how to read others, but how to ensure others struggle to read you in return. Your movements become difficult to predict, your intentions remain concealed, and your own Echoes fade beneath practiced composure. A master Veilwalker understands that the greatest mystery is often themselves.
Ability Score Improvement
19th-Level Veilwalker Feature
Your mastery of observation and decisive action reaches its final refinement. You gain the Ability Score Improvement feature, allowing you to increase one ability score of your choice by 2, increase two ability scores of your choice by 1 each, or select a feat for which you qualify, following your group’s character advancement rules.
Master of Echoes

20th-Level Veilwalker Feature
You have become one of the greatest interpreters of the Veil’s hidden language. Nothing meaningful occurs without leaving an Echo, and almost nothing escapes your notice. Whenever you roll initiative and have no use of Revelation remaining, you regain one use.
In addition, whenever you successfully Expose an Opening, you may immediately identify one additional related Opening without making another check. Both Openings must exist naturally within the target, and each follows the normal rules for Expose.
To ordinary observers, the world appears chaotic. To you, every action is part of a story already being written. A Master of Echoes does not merely react to events. They understand them before anyone else.
