Aphrodisian

“A single drop can invite a thousand sensations.”

Lore Overview

Aphrodisians distill desire into scent, oil, perfume, and delicate alchemical preparations. Their work tunes sensation: anticipation can become exhilarating, a racing pulse can settle, and a shared fragrance can turn release into a moment of connection. Their craft supports chosen experiences and gives them tools to disturb an opponent’s concentration through telegraphed sensory magic.

Aphrodisian Formulations

3rd-Level Relicwright Feature

Gain proficiency with alchemist’s supplies or herbalism kit; if already proficient with both, gain proficiency in Medicine. At the end of a long rest, prepare a reusable alchemical atomizer and choose two formulations: Bloom, Stillwater, or Ember. Change these choices at the end of a long rest. The atomizer is a Tiny focus held in one hand; no consumable vials are tracked.

As a bonus action, expend 1 Spark and deliver a prepared formulation to yourself or a willing creature you can see within 30 feet. Choose its sensory expression—a scent, oil, mist, or perfume. Bloom grants temporary hit points equal to 1d6 + your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1) for 1 minute. Stillwater lets the target add 1d4 to the next Constitution or Wisdom saving throw it makes within 1 minute. Ember lets the target move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. The formula ends after its stated benefit; repeated temporary hit points do not stack.

Veiled Play. When receiving Bloom or Ember, the target may gain 1 Arousal. If it actually gains that Arousal, it gains advantage on its next ability check before the end of its next turn. Stillwater’s recipient may instead reduce its Arousal by 1.

Unveiled Play. When delivering any formulation, you may spend 1 Libido. Bloom’s target may gain 1 Arousal and add your proficiency bonus to the temporary hit points; Stillwater’s target may reduce its Arousal by 2; Ember’s target may gain 1 Arousal and move an additional 10 feet. The target chooses whether to accept the Arousal change.

Distilled Release

3rd-Level Relicwright Feature

Veiled and Unveiled Play. When you resolve your own Climax, choose a prepared formulation and one willing creature you can see within 30 feet. Without an action or Spark, deliver its baseline effect. You may do so a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest. This is a specialty benefit in addition to Breakthrough; it does not restore Sparks or grant a second Climax.

In Unveiled Play, you may instead spend 1 Libido after the Climax’s normal Libido loss to let the creature reduce Arousal by 1, without delivering a formulation. Both options share the same uses.

Perfumer’s Rite

3rd-Level Relicwright Feature

During a short or long rest, spend 10 minutes preparing a scent with up to your proficiency bonus willing participants. Each participant chooses a comforting sensory note. Once before their next long rest, a participant may add 1d4 to a Wisdom (Insight) or Charisma (Persuasion) check made during a conversation with another participant. A creature benefits from this rite once per long rest.

Veiled Play. At the rite’s end, a participant may gain 1 Arousal. Unveiled Play. One participant may spend 1 Libido to let another willing participant reduce Arousal by 1. No effect reveals feelings or compels intimacy.

Sensory Counterpoint

7th-Level Relicwright Feature

When a creature you can see within 30 feet makes an attack roll against you or a willing creature, use your reaction and expend 1 Spark to release a momentary scent that disturbs its focus. It makes a Constitution saving throw against your Relicwright spell save DC; on a failure, subtract 1d6 from that attack roll. The scent is perceptible and the effect works on creatures that cannot smell, as magical sensory interference.

Veiled Play. If it fails, it gains 1 Arousal. Unveiled Play. If it fails, it gains 1 Arousal; you may spend 1 Libido to also prevent it from taking reactions until the start of its next turn. A failed save never establishes attraction or consent.

Layered Bouquet

11th-Level Relicwright Feature

You can prepare all three formulations. When you deliver one by spending a Spark, you can deliver a second, different prepared formulation to the same willing creature or another willing creature within 30 feet. Its baseline effect resolves as part of the same bonus action. This does not spend another Spark; only the first chosen recipient can use the mode-specific option from Aphrodisian Formulations.

Veiled Play. After a recipient of either formulation resolves a Climax before the start of your next turn, you may use your reaction to deliver Stillwater’s baseline effect to a willing creature within 30 feet. Use this reaction a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Unveiled Play. When you use this reaction, you may instead let the chosen creature reduce Arousal by 1. It gains no Stillwater saving-throw bonus. Both options share the same uses.

Grand Accord

15th-Level Relicwright Feature

Once per long rest, as an action, expend 1 Spark to release a designed bouquet for 1 minute, requiring concentration as if on a spell. At activation choose up to your proficiency bonus willing creatures you can see within 30 feet. Deliver one prepared formulation’s baseline effect to each; choose the same or a different formula for each creature. At the start of each of your turns, you may deliver one prepared formulation’s baseline effect to one chosen creature you can see within 30 feet. These deliveries spend no further Sparks and do not trigger Formulations’ mode-specific options.

Veiled Play. Once during the bouquet, after a chosen creature resolves Climax, it can regain 2d6 hit points. Unveiled Play. Once per turn, when you deliver a formulation through this feature, you may spend 1 Libido to let its recipient reduce Arousal by 1. Neither effect replaces normal Climax consequences.

Additional Information

Combat Identity

A support alchemist and sensory controller. Bloom protects a companion, Stillwater steadies a saving throw, and Ember opens a route through danger. Sensory Counterpoint contests an incoming attack, while Layered Bouquet and Grand Accord let a carefully prepared collection of scents support more than one need.

Desire Identity

Arousal is the mounting intensity of a deliberately composed scent; Libido is the endurance spent sustaining its stronger effects. Formulations let willing recipients accept escalation or choose the listed relief. Distilled Release turns your own Climax into a prepared formulation, and later features let you respond to another recipient’s release. These are distinct specialty benefits, not additional Spark recovery.

Class Integration

Choose this Inventor Specialty at Relicwright level 3. It grants features at levels 3, 7, 11, and 15 and uses your existing Sparks, spell save DC, and Breakthrough. It does not add another specialty or replace your spellcasting, Sparkcraft, or Imbued Creations.

Spark Recovery. In Veiled Play, your first Spark expenditure on a Relicwright feature during an encounter gives you 1 Arousal after that feature resolves. In Unveiled Play, this occurs once per turn. Apply the feature’s selected play-mode effects separately; spending more than one Spark does not multiply Spark Recovery’s gain.

Breakthrough. After resolving your own Climax, the next Relicwright feature you activate that normally costs 1 Spark costs 0 Sparks until the end of your next turn, provided Breakthrough’s once-per-long-rest benefit is available. All other conditions and costs remain. Apply Breakthrough’s selected play-mode benefit from the Relicwright class. No Spark is spent, so Spark Recovery does not trigger. A specialty’s separate release benefit does not grant another Breakthrough use.

Ritual and Social Use

Perfumer’s Rite begins with the participants choosing the notes they wish to share: familiar woodsmoke, rain on stone, a remembered garden, or another agreed sensory expression. An Aphrodisian might prepare an envoy for an audience, compose a companion’s ceremonial perfume, or help a group establish a comforting shared atmosphere. The rite’s feature supplies its complete benefits and limits; these uses add no extra bonuses or disclosures.

Example of Play

At 3rd level, you have prepared Bloom and Ember. As a bonus action, spend 1 Spark to deliver Ember to a willing ally within 30 feet. The ally moves up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. In Veiled Play, the ally may gain 1 Arousal to gain advantage on its next ability check before the end of its next turn. Separately, if this is your first qualifying Spark expenditure of the encounter, Spark Recovery gives you 1 Arousal after the feature resolves.

If that gain brings you to 6 Arousal, resolve Climax immediately. Distilled Release can then deliver a prepared formulation’s baseline effect to a willing creature within 30 feet, spending one of its own uses. Breakthrough also becomes available if its once-per-long-rest benefit has not already been gained; the free formulation from Distilled Release neither consumes Breakthrough nor restores a Spark.

Additional Rules

Prepare two formulations after a long rest until Layered Bouquet lets you prepare all three. The atomizer is reusable, requires one hand, and does not introduce a consumable-vial supply or an Imbued Creation slot. Temporary hit points do not add together. Layered Bouquet grants its second baseline formulation only when a Spark is actually spent; a Spark-free activation through Breakthrough does not satisfy that expenditure trigger.

Grand Accord requires concentration as if concentrating on a spell. Its repeated deliveries are baseline effects, not additional Spark expenditures or additional uses of Aphrodisian Formulations’ mode-specific options. Sensory Counterpoint uses the Constitution saving throw named in that feature against your Relicwright spell save DC; it does not require a second saving throw.

Unless a feature names another save, use your Relicwright spell save DC: 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. Build or prepare the reusable apparatus with appropriate proficient artisan’s tools or tinker’s tools during a long rest. Cosmetic description grants no unlisted range, target, damage, duration, or benefit.

Play Modes and Desire Resolution

Use the current Mechanics of Desire for the shared limits and resolution. A creature normally gains at most 3 Arousal during one turn unless a rule explicitly provides an exception. A benefit conditional on gaining or reducing Arousal requires that change actually to occur, and reductions cannot take the total below 0. An EROSave uses Constitution or Wisdom as allowed by the shared rules, with proficiency only when proficient in the chosen saving throw.

At 6 Arousal, resolve the applicable Climax Effect, reduce Libido by 1 where tracked, reset Arousal to 0, and then resolve eligible aftermath features. Healing, Exhaustion, and Spark recovery occur only when an applicable rule grants or imposes them. Pay any optional post-Climax Libido cost after the normal Libido loss. Changing play modes restores no expended uses, charges, reactions, or resources.

Your creations cannot determine attraction, consent, identity, or lasting feelings. A willing participant can stop using a preparation, transformation, or device as its feature permits. Agree on the sensory description; emotional or magical resonance and veiled description use the same mechanics.

  • Classic Play. Use baseline effects and any expressly stated Classic alternative without tracking Arousal or Libido. A feature that only responds to or changes Desire supplies no extra Classic benefit.
  • Veiled Play. Use the baseline feature and its Veiled option. Add each stated Arousal gain to the creature’s current total; apply an expressly stated reduction numerically. Features do not assign or replace a Desire state. If a gain reaches 6 Arousal, resolve Climax immediately before continuing. Do not also apply the Unveiled option.
  • Unveiled Play. Use the baseline feature and its Unveiled option, plus any effect explicitly labeled for both modes. The two mode-specific alternatives do not stack. Spend Libido only when the feature permits it and you have enough to pay the cost; a feature without a Libido cost remains available subject to its normal requirements.

Deity Alignment

Aphrodisians may honor Velyssara through the craft of shared pleasure and connection, or Delavira through the anticipation created by a carefully measured scent. These are possible affinities, not prerequisites. A perfumer’s formulas arise from Relicwright craftsmanship; worship neither supplies extra formulations nor changes their rules.
