Description

You flick a spectral needle of calcified energy at one creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 necrotic damage and cannot take reactions until the start of its next turn if its speed is already 0. The damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8). This spell does not damage objects.

Velvet Court Devotion. Nyzun. Nyzun’s needle-prayers celebrate sharp sensation, the clarity of pain and the wisdom of calling an ordeal to an end. A battlefield wound never creates consent to an intimate trial.

Devotional Rite. In a consensual noncombat training rite, a willing participant may choose to take the cantrip’s normal necrotic damage without an attack roll, but the reaction-suppression rider still requires its printed conditions. Either participant may end the trial before casting; there is no intimacy compulsion.

• Veiled Effects. On a hit against a hostile creature, you may cause the needle to leave a visible white streak that remains until the beginning of your next turn. The streak emits no light and has no other effect.
• Unveiled Effects. Once per encounter, when this cantrip hits a hostile creature that has damaged you or an ally during the encounter, you may gain 1 Arousal after the damage resolves. If you do, the target’s speed is reduced by 5 feet until the beginning of your next turn. This additional reduction does not stack with itself.
